This was purchased to connect an old Lacie backup drive with only a firewire plug to a new Mac Mini with no firewire port and only a USB port. "Disconnect device consuming excessive power," Mac says. " The backup drive could not be found. It's not even recognized when connected to an older MacBook Pro. This item isn't even close to being a converter.
One computer died after I used it, while the other continued to malfunction. It's not something you should buy.
I tried connecting two old external hard drives (purchased in the mid-2000s) to my new M1 iMac--it didn't work. a vintage Lacie and a vintage Acomdata Neither of them had any sort of recognition. I tested the firewire port on an old iBook G4 and it recognized the drives, so the problem was most likely with the adapter rather than the hard drives themselves.
This adapter does not function in any way. My money was a waste.
IN WINDOWS 10 IT DOESN'T WORK.
This isn't going to work. I should have started by watching the YouTube videos that demonstrate the device and why it doesn't work. I hope this information is useful to others. I've learned the hard way that researching a product before purchasing it is essential.
This product is a scam, so don't buy it.
It does not sync, but it does charge.
