Questions & Answers

On each side, how are the pins connected?

It's supposed to be a usb to firewire converter, but it's not working. It says there isn't enough energy to work as soon as you plug it in to connect your old iPod. It's not something you should buy.

Is it possible to use a USB port to connect an external Firewire DVD drive?

No, don't buy it; it's a waste of money. It does not work in any way. Not even as a wait for a piece of paper.

Is it simple to operate this device?

If that's the usb adaptor I bought a few years ago, it's simple to use but doesn't work. Useless.

Is this firewire capable of converting a video signal to a USB 2 format? "Simply plug the peripheral device's into the." you write. " Do you have any gadgets?

There isn't a single chip in it, and it doesn't convert anything at all. I'm not sure, but I believe it connects the signal lines to the USB port so that firewire devices can be programmed or created using USB.

It's not working: I read the standard "it works great" vs
3/5

"it doesn't work at all" arguments. On Amazon, there are a lot of "it doesn't work" reviews, so who can you trust? The only way to find out was to order the adapter and test it out. And I can attest to the fact that I am among those who believe "IT DOESN'T WORK. " br>br>I have two hardware setups: a Firewire Nikon slide scanner and a Firewire LaCie CD/DVD burner, both with EITHER my 8- or 16-inch monitor. year- My old 17-inch MacBook Pro with Firewire or my new 13-inch MacBook Pro with USB The MacBook Pro is equipped with a C (x4) processor. The following are the outcomes: br>br> Both the Nikon and LaCie devices work flawlessly when plugged into the Firewire port on my 17-inch MacBook Pro (I am using a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter, but that is irrelevant). Both of the devices are in perfect working order. But, in order to connect those same devices to my new MacBook Pro, I purchased this adapter in the hopes that it would work. I already owned a USB flash drive. 2. C to USB To connect legacy USB devices, you'll need to use the 0 adapter. Using this USB 2 port to connect either a scanner or a hard drive Both MBPs were affected by the failure of the 0 Male to IEEE 1394 6P Female Adaptor converter! I tried connecting directly to the MBP ports on both computers without using any external hubs, and I got ZERO connection in ALL OF THESE CASES using this USB to Firewire adapter. In fact, one of my external drives dismounted from the desktop and spun down when I plugged it into my 13" MacBook Pro. I'm not sure if it's a power thing or not - The Firewire devices are attempting to draw more power from the ports than they are capable of handling. This adaptor, on the other hand, would not work. I'm returning it, despite the fact that it was only $6.

I ruined the firewire port on my Sony camera! This adapter ruined the firewire port on my camera, so don't buy it unless you want to ruin your devices
3/5

When connected to my very old Dell computer (which had a firewire port), my firewire port worked fine. I wanted to go all out and connect it to a newer PC/iMac PRO. My camera's firewire port stopped working immediately after I used this. At first, I assumed it simply did not work. As a result, when I reverted to the original configuration (camera to old PC), the camera was no longer recognized. Three computers were used to test this. I purchased a USED Sony camera that worked with the old settings. I'm not going to buy anything else from them. I'm not sure why this product was created; it's useless. I should've paid attention to the other reviews that said the same thing. They, as well as Amazon, are to blame.

I should've paid attention to what the other people were saying

DOESN'T WORK AT ALL! Because it was so inexpensive, I was willing to take a chance that it would perform exactly as I expected. Well. That is not the case. No way, and it's completely useless. br>br>I was trying to connect my Presonus mixing board to my computer, and I figured this little gadget would help. I was mistaken, to be sure. Through this connection, I was unable to locate the mixing board. I tried it in two places. 0 and 3. There were a total of 0 USB connections, but they were all ineffective. Finally, I had to put in a PCI-Express card. a computer with a firewire card - That, thank goodness, worked! No, for whatever reason, I am unable to recommend this device. You've been given fair warning.

Video Capture is not possible
5/5

Just a word of warning, firewire-to-firewire. Video can't be played on a USB drive. Constant stream is required for video capture to a PC. If you're interested, you can look it up on the internet. I just want to save you some time if you're getting this as a magical workaround for not having a firewire port: it's great for data, but not for video capture from a camera or other playing device.

Your computer may be harmed by this device
3/5

I bought it to see if I could connect it to a soundboard that had IEEE firewire connections. When I first plugged the device into my laptop, it told me that it was consuming too much power. I tried a few different USB ports, but it didn't work. I would not recommend trying this device, which is also not returnable to Amazon despite being defective.

This isn't going to work
3/5

This product does not work, as many others have said before me. I should have paid attention and saved both time and money if I had. But no, I had to figure it out on my own. I tried to use it to connect an external hard drive device that was designed to work with a PCMCIA Firewire card slot in my old laptop. Because my newer laptop and desktop computers lack a PCMCIA slot or firewire ports, I decided to give this a shot. I'm computer savvy enough to have built my desktop computer from the ground up, and I've earned multiple degrees in the field. But, after a few hours of attempting to locate and install a driver that will allow this device to function, I'm giving up. In Device Manager, it appears as an unknown device. I've tried downloading and installing a variety of IEEE 1394 drivers, but none of them seem to work. Windows 10 is unable to recognize the device and is unsure how to interact with it. In my desktop tower, I'll almost certainly be better off looking for and installing a real firewire port card. This isn't a plug-and-play device at all, which is misleading advertising. Don't waste your time. Try a different approach. That's not the case. If you insist on buying it, I'll gladly sell you mine, which has been in my possession for less than a day and is brand new!.

It is possible that connectivity will not be established
3/5

I intended to use this to connect an extremely old hard drive to a slightly older Mac laptop, but I ran into the error depicted in the accompanying image. "Close" was the button I pressed. Even after using Disk Utility and a Terminal trick, the external drive would not mount. br>br>On its own, the adaptor appears to be fine. The jack and port are well-matched to their respective connections. br>br>I also tried pairing this adaptor with a USB-C cable. There is no error message when using a C adaptor to connect this old external HD to a new Mac Powerbook. Disk Utility also doesn't reveal anything. It's as if the drive doesn't exist. br>br>The external drive *does* mount on my ancient Mac Powerbook G3, so I know it's not the drive. br>br>If any of this sounds like what you're trying to do, keep in mind that the physical connection isn't always followed by a network connection.

Firewire on an Apple computer is a terrible idea! This was not a straightforward "plug and play!" situation
3/5

" First and foremost, kudos to Apple for attempting to persuade everyone to adopt Firewire! I now have a hard drive that will not connect to my new iMac because the aforementioned connection has been rendered obsolete! I was hoping this would be the answer, but it doesn't appear to be the case!.
