In my office, I have 3 devices that are not able to connect to a network. As you can see, it's not a USB to LAN device, but rather, it turns USB 2 into an Ethernet interface. My setup is an old craft robo to an ethernet cable (which you can not plug into your own home network) and back to a USB on the other end. I use it with my old rolo printer, rolo thermal printer, and Canon I give this film five.

It was a breeze to set up the units. Make sure you plug it in and turn it on It's play time. When I tested it with a 10 foot Cat5e/6 cable, it worked fine. The 5mp eyepiece web cam I have plugged in is one of the devices I have attached. I was able to see the web cam video at the highest resolution even with only 10' of cable. In fact, when I switched to a 100' cable (the highest speed), I noticed a distinct improvement The higher resolutions I tried became distorted (and this was the best quality I could find), and the software handling the camera froze. I was able to get consistently good results when I went lower than 1280/768. The camera would freeze if it went over this point. In order to work at high resolutions, I couldn't do anything more than change to a dedicated USB cable with a length less than 15', or shorten the cat 5e/6 cable. This means these units work, and you can use them to control your USB devices up to 150' away. The capacity appears to be limited to those with modest bandwidth needs.

Honestly, I can understand why there aren't 5 ports on the far end, but for our application, a 5th port sure would have been beneficial. It was flawless. I'm pleased with the performance. In the past, I had already run a cat 6 connection to a location and realized I didn't need it for internet anymore, but for a webcam (for zooming in and out). As soon as I unpacked the product, plugged it in, and it worked right away. The connection is as if I was directly plugged in to This book is highly recommended. It only needs mounting brackets, and I would like it to have them. Nevertheless, that is just being picky, I just velcroed the screen to the back of the TV, which was just as effective.

A product from this manufacturer was advertised as allowing us to reach 100 feet with USB. The system works for about 10 minutes when two USB cameras are connected at 100 feet. Despite its advertised value, this product failed to live up to its expectations. An experiment of shorter 25ft length has worked well so far.
