Questions & Answers

Do these work with a pair of daisy-chained monitors running at 2560x1600 at 60Hz?

Generally you get what you pay for. I consider this junk to be too much trouble for its benefit. The money I spent went to a great switch (TRENDnet TK-1)

When gaming, have you noticed lag in the input process?

I don't do a lot of gaming, but I do play some.

When used at a higher refresh rate (2560 x 1400 @144Hz), why does the screen constantly flicker?

The Displayport KVM lets me control a 3440x1440 monitor at 120Hz using the Displayport. I don't care if it goes to 144Hz, but 120Hz is good enough for Please make sure that your DisplayPort 1 cables are rated accordingly. A screen resolution of 3680 x 2160 at 120Hz or higher is recommended. As I recall, when I tried to get higher resolutions and refresh rates using random mini Displayport to Displayport cables, I was unable to do so.

The 1080p refresh rate is what, and what is it?

We recommend 60Hz as a refresh rate

With the right hardware configuration, you'll get solid, nearly perfect HDMI and DP KVM switches
4/5

I'm pleased to say that these KVM switches have turned out to be pretty good. It took me a long time to find a good configuration after trying several monitors, HDMI and DP versions of the KVM and a number of converter cables. Here are some notes I wrote that may be helpful to other purchasers in finding the right combination. It didn't work well with the DP KVM switch when I switched from my laptop docking station to my Acer G235h monitor. I would get a snowy screen for several seconds. Then there would be a flash of video for four seconds on my screen. It would take 6 seconds for a stable picture to appear. In the absence of It would snow permanently unless I power cycled the monitor, but when I powered it back on everything would work normally until I switched to the other port. So I replaced the monitor with an Asus VP247QG monitor and eliminated the converter cable, and things started working again nicely. The new monitor - without converter cables - does almost everything I want it to do. I am not sure whether it was the computer monitor, the cables, or the docking station that caused the problem. I was using the HDMI version of this KVM switch - it was pretty similar to the serial version -- The problem was caused by my old monitor, as well as a series of converters. From the occasional wrong screen resolution to flashing video after a switch to a display of "static" that eventually turned into a solid picture on occasion, all of the problems with the HDMI version of the KVM switch were resolved by replacing the monitor and removing all of the converters. After switching from my laptop to my desktop computer, the video only takes 5 seconds to appear. Now that it's perfect, what isn't? I usually have to "reset" and switch to the desktop every 14 hours or so (I am using KVM for 14+ hours a day). In reality, it is not a big deal, it happens at very infrequent intervals and has no impact. The problem may be caused by the somewhat unusual RGB backlit mechanical keyboard I'm using, but I'm not interested in changing to a more regular keyboard to test. Almost everything else works flawlessly, meaning it would be difficult to tell if you've used a KVM switch. The following points are also relevant As I prefer to hear the sounds coming from both systems, I did not test the audio/mic portion of the KVM. It was a pleasure working with the manufacturer's customer service Every step of the process was patient and suggestions were given at every turn. Additionally, I would like to add No power supply comes with the KVM, and no instructions are provided on connecting it to an outlet If you do not already have it plugged in, connect the input/output devices before plugging it in. The bottom line is that these KVMs are solid, nearly perfect DP, HDMI devices attached with the correct hardware.

The product is deemed unusable This often causes the monitor to go black
3/5

I purchased it so I could switch between docks for two laptops (a Surface & an Air) Docking stations for Lenovo OEM laptops). I have tested both video outputs using a direct connection without any issues. It is important to note that when connected, this KVM will display an intermittent black screen for 1-second I caught the two It happened a couple of times when I first bought, but stabilized for 30 days after that A 90-minute session. It can happen every 5 minutes or every 2 minutes sometimes, but this usually occurs every 5 minutes It takes five In the next few weeks, I will only be able to use it for switching keyboards It is possible to connect the display with the mouse, but must be done manually The monitor should be connected directly to the port.

I find this button very useful
4/5

You can tell KVMs which computer you want to switch by using keyboard hotkeys. Other units have a button(s) that cause the switch to turn on or off. KVMs like this one, that provide a tiny remote button that can be placed on the desk unobtrusively, and hide the large unit and all the cables attached to it, somewhere behind the desk, have become very popular for me. With just a few press of the little button, you can easily switch between the two. It is made out of solid real estate with a good click when pressed, and the button has a dim blue light to let you know what is active. All excellent. In addition to the KVM itself, no virtual connections are attempted to systems that are not in focus when a DisplayPort KVM is used The consequence of this is that when you switch between your computers, the OS you're using will see you unplug the display connection and replug it every time. Depending on how your setup is set up, this means something different. It is likely that the OS will just sit and wait until the display returns if you only have one monitor. The OS will generally move most of your windows off of the missing display and place them on the remaining one when you have multiple monitors. This might cause windows to be resized and repositioned if the display resolution is different. It is possible that your OS will restore the windows to their previous locations when you connect the missing display, however this is unlikely. If you have the right (wrong) combination of elements, then it can be a mess. Also, the keyboard and mouse appear to be plugged in or unplugged whenever the switch is flipped. However, this usually does not cause too much disruption. As long as I am connected to a wireless keyboard and mouse by connecting a Logitech UnifyingTM adapter, I have not experienced any adverse There are some KVMs that interfere with the extended keys and buttons on fancy mice and keyboards however, this KVM seems to be able to pass these key and button presses along like it's nothing. In other words, it should be that way. One of the only problems I've observed on my display is occasional flickering. Due to the fact that it doesn't happen often, it's hard to tell if it's an issue with the KVM, or if my cable might be substandard. It has no power source from the computers, as some KVMs are powered by USB ports, but this one does need to plug in the power supply provided, or the KVM will not work. Given all the problems I have had with KVMs in the past, I won't really complain about this one, given how many problems I have had in the past. The display I'm using has a 4Kx2160p@60 resolution and is working as it should. The price at which it is offered is pretty good to me.
