They're a little on the high side. If you have a butt, they run slightly big or true to size. I don't have any, I just have a belly-button-button-button-button-b sigh. They will, however, get as close as possible to your naval. They were full coverage for me, and I am 5'9" tall.
If the size ranges from 16 to 18, order your true size; these are the most comfortable and flattering swimming shorts I've ever owned. If you're still not sure, look at other people's reviews to see what size they recommend, as that's how I got mine.
I purchased a size 1 x. Tag "Fashion World" I am 5'7" and wear a size 14 inseam (from crotch to leg hem). My thighs were a little too loose in the shorts. slamming into my thigh in the middle I could have worn a large instead because my legs are average, but they are a good length and do not bunch in the crotch area.
Take a look at the size chart or go by what you normally wear in other shorts or pants if they are in S/M/L/XL/1X, etc. These swim shorts fit true to size.

I'm 5'3", 235 pounds, and have wide hips. These are fantastic. They aren't super tight because I bought 3X, but they do stay put. In the pool, there were no issues.
They were the perfect length and coverage for the entire trip, and I could have easily worn them all day. I actually wore them as shorts on a couple of occasions! These swim shorts are a must-have!.
I really like these swim trunks because they are just right in length and width. Please make more colors available; I already have the blue and black and would like to see navy blue, deep pink, or aqua. There aren't a lot of options for plus-size women, but these are perfect. The fabric is excellent, and the sizing is ideal; it is neither thin nor see-through. These are fantastic swim shorts. In jeans, I wear a size 20 and ordered a 3x. These have a spandex-like fit. I had some wiggle room and a little give, which made for excellent coverage for pear-shaped women.
The boy shorts style is perfect for my inner thigh bulge and covers it up nicely. These go up over the bellybutton and stay firmly on my high waist. These have the same fit and comfort as bike shorts, but they're a whole lot more comfortable. I went out and bought a second one. Pair.
