You should be able to get away with a little extra room at the toes, as your feet will likely swell during the day and from mountain biking. When you are lacing up your shoes, you just don't want your foot to slide around. It is a nice pair of shoes that had a grippy sole and offered good traction even when I downhill biked at Mammoth Mountain. Don't worry about spending a lot of money. If you don't want to give up on this activity, just be sure you get a pair of decent flat pedals with pins. Rock bros on Amazon has a great pair of flats for $20. The petals were pretty flat, but they were fairly sticky for the flat petals and tasted pretty good. It was done. The thought of buying a pair of shoes specifically for mountain biking made me nervous. That I decided to purchase these has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. Despite the fact that they are quite cushioned, the chairs are extremely comfortable. The difference between these kick butt shoes and a new pair of studded pedals was astonishing to me. I've never felt such a strong grip before. While I was trying to grip the pedals, I hadn't realized how cramped my feet were. While biking, my feet would slipped off the flat pedal from time to time because of the running shoes I was wearing. It is amazing how much my life has improved since I bought the Freeriders! Due to the sticky bottoms and stiff soles, my feet stay on the pedals without being caught by them, and I pedal with less effort thanks to the stiff soles. I highly recommend these shoes for people who Because of the socks that I wear, I normally wear a size 7 in regular shoes, but I purchase a size 8 in athletic shoes. I have normal feet with a width of 3 inches and a length of 9 1/4 inches. Since I have a high arch, I'm able to wear these shoes comfortably.
I've tried the clipless pedals and have yet to master them, so I chose the Shimano Pd-R I saw someone recommend the Five Ten bike shoes as well as Mx80 pedals. I felt that they felt somewhat clumsy and looked like ordinary sneakers when I tried them on. These are lightweight and I certainly appreciate the high price! Although they seem rigid, I find them to be quite lightweight. The pins on the platform pedals are sticking to my shoes, and it feels as if my feet are "clipped in. ". The shoes help me improve my pedal strokes and make me feel more confident while I ride my bike. I've also thought about replacing the pedals on my other bike so that I can use these shoes instead. I have an old pair of Karver's and those have an ankle pad on the inside as well. These wouldn't be as compromised if they were installed a bit higher and more protective. These pedals are like all 5/10s, your feet are glued to the pedals like they're glued to the floor. The fact that these allow me to have a MTB specific item that isn't made for men is also a plus! am tall and not thin so I have to buy everything in men's sizes, which includes jerseys and shorts. To give you a sense of my shoe size, I have narrow foot size 10 but sometimes can wear an 8. The 10s were the best I could get. Though I would prefer to get an 11, I have a 5. There is too much stiffness in the toes, and the size is too small for me.
