It may be very light weight, but it is still quite durable. In a vicious wind and rain storm while paddling a canoe, I wore mine all day. My floatation device was also worn in a drizzle on the cruise ship while I was on duty on an Alaskan cruise. I don't baby mine. I have two and one constantly lives in the front pocket of my personal floatation device so that it is close at hand when needed. Something that you can fold up and keep in your pocket while managing to keep you dry on top and bottom. As you can see, the brim of the hat appeared to "unfold" somewhat in order to provide more coverage, but in reality it isn't like that.
I remember these being popular when I was a kid. The hood of my raincoat doesn't always cover my face and my hair can get blown off sometimes.
