Questions & Answers

This is described as "heavy weight stitching" in the description. Did you get the heavy-duty stitching or did you get the light-duty stitching?

In spite of the product description, I don't believe this Shemagh has any "stitching." The woven fabric, on the other hand, is slightly heavier than most Shemaghs. I have a few different types of Shemagh, all of which are fairly thin and allow air to easily pass through the fabric, which is beneficial in hot, sunny weather. This Shemagh won't breathe as well as regular Shemaghs, but it will be more durable and provide more warmth if the weather turns cold. In hot weather, I still use it now and then.

What's the time frame here?

Fabric is light to medium weight cotton and measures 40" x 40". When you wash it, it becomes quite soft. After a few washes, it fades a little, but it's a great all-around color.

Is this a pair of babushkas?

These are some of the most high-end Slavic grandmothers available.

Where do these come from? Do they shrink and scrunch up when washed like the ones I bought at the swap meet that were made in Pakistan?

I love mine, but I don't wash it in the machine; instead, I hand wash it in the sink with a little soap, rinse it, and hang it to dry. Will serve you well for a long time.

Selected User Reviews For Rothco Solid Color Shemagh-Tactical Desert Scarf

I believe these are of higher quality than those produced by the Hirbawi factory
4/5

Okay, so this review is a little lengthy, but I believe it is worthwhile for those who are interested in learning more. Honestly, I believe these are of higher quality than those produced by the Hirbawi factory. They're softer and have a thicker weave, and there are a few pulled threads, but for the price, I'm fine with it. They don't appear to be difficult to repair (cut the loose thread in the middle and tie a square knot). Remove the rest of the thread. ) I wasn't particularly careful with my Foliage one, but it's not completely ruined. In fact, it appears to be far more durable than my $25 Hirbawi shemagh. br>br>For those who don't know, the Hirbawi factory is supposedly the last authentic maker of these scarves in Palestine; I say supposedly because the culture surrounding these scarves appears to be quite nuanced, and I don't claim to have all of the facts. Is it true that they are the only authentic makers in the world, or just in Palestine? Are they only authentic if they are made in Palestine? What does authentic even mean? Is it true that there are no factories producing these in the United Arab Emirates? Turkey? Is it true that every Muslim owns a Hirbawi? The remainder is made in India, China, or Pakistan, as far as I can tell. These Rothco shemaghs, based on what I've learned, are made in India. br>br>I decided to try a Hirbawi shemagh because I assumed it would be of the highest quality; however, while their scarves are absolutely stunning, I swear I can see more and more threads that have been pulled out every time I look at them closely. And I've handled it with extreme caution, which is something I don't want to be concerned about, especially since it's only $25 from an authentic factory. The threads on that one are very thin, and the weave appears to be quite loose, which is strange given that the amazon description claims it to be the "heaviest weave on the market" or something along those lines. If it was done on purpose, I could understand. Because Palestine is so hot, it's only natural that the authentic Palestinian shemagh be thinner and lighter. But why do they claim to be the heaviest when they clearly aren't? Having said that, I live in a climate where the temperature ranges from 9 to 15 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature is 112 degrees Fahrenheit. In the cold, I find that a single Hirbawi scarf is insufficient. I can cover my neck fairly well, but neither my face nor my neck are particularly warm. It would be necessary for me to double up. But at $25, I can't really afford it, especially if I'm not sure how good they are. I'm all for supporting a last-standing manufacturer of genuine goods, but it's difficult when the higher price doesn't seem to be worth it. I still wear mine because it's beautiful, and part of the reason I do is to show support for Muslims. Wearing my Rothcos makes me feel a little bad. But I'm curious if every Muslim who wears a shemagh owns one made by Hirbawi. Is it possible that some of them are wearing Rothcos? br>br>ON THE OTHER HAND, let's get back to Rothco. It's a good product, and I'd recommend it. I'm going to buy more. It is not to be washed in a machine. Hand wash in cold water with a soft cloth. These can be quite useful in extremely cold weather, especially if you fold it several times. However, at these prices, I believe it is worthwhile to purchase two for additional layering. I'd like a few more in the checked pattern. br>br>I originally purchased two solid-colored scarves after someone at work objected to my white and blue checkered one (this can happen; as I previously stated, the culture surrounding these scarves is quite complicated). It was a brief encounter, and I'm not sure if the man was simply ignorant, or if he was Muslim and offended by some white kid wearing one, or if he was Israeli and I was wearing the national symbol of pride for the country with which his people have been at war for thousands of years. I walked away because it was still early in the mourning process and I wasn't in the mood for a geopolitical discussion. If you're wearing a shemagh, be aware that things like this can happen. A solid-colored one, on the other hand, is much less likely.

This isn't the Foliage Green Shemagh you've been looking for
3/5

Sooo. I'm tossing around some ideas. When ordering an item marked "Foliage Green" on Amazon, you can save up to $500. Sometimes it's "Foliage Green," as the name implies. And sometimes it's just any shade of green that they call "foliage Green" in order to sell something. This Shemagh is NOT in the Foliage Green color scheme. That's exactly what I wanted. It's a shade of green, but not the one you're looking for. I repeat. "Foliage Green" is not one of the options. There's an important distinction to be made here. Regrettably, Amazon's vendors do not comprehend this concept. I'm pretty sure I'm going to stop ordering things on Amazon that are labeled "Foliage Green. " A 50% success rate of very good is not very good is 50 very good is 50 very good is 50%.

This is a must-have item, so get a couple of them
5/5

Soft, simple, and well-priced. During the summer, we primarily use these for 3 gun to keep the direct sunlight off of our heads and shoulders. We'll even soak them and drape them over our heads if the temperature is above 100 degrees. I've never tested them in a brown out for sand protection, but I believe they'd help to reduce inhaling wind-driven desert sands. I keep a couple in the trunk as well because they can be used to mop up spills, wipe down a dog, or get down on the ground to change a tire or whatever. These are well-made, haven't bled in the wash, and haven't shrunk significantly.

Solid, functional Tactical Scarf in a variety of colors
5/5

This item is well-made in my opinion. The fabric has a crepe-like texture to it. It's comfortable to wear, and it hangs well, though it can snag at times. I have a large head (American hat size 7 3/4), and this scarf is large enough for me to wrap all the way around my head and face as a head covering. br>br>It's surprising how difficult it is to find something like this in a solid color, but this manufacturer has a few solid colors available. My color is a grayish-green called "foliage green. " green, reminiscent of World War II German field gray. This color goes well with greens and tans, and it's naturalistic enough to fit in with natural settings. br>br>When I first got it, I hand-washed it, as suggested by other Amazon reviewers. Hand-washing was simple, the scarf dried quickly, and there was no odor from the fabric.

This is a fantastic piece of writing
5/5

So I bought a Shemagh or Kufiya from another manufacturer, Rothco, as well as the original Hirbawi from Palestine. I can say that the one from another manu I originally purchased the Rothco in Coyote Brown, but the color was much more golden or and I was hoping for more of a desert brown, so I returned it and replaced it with Foliage. Foliage is a lovely shade of green, and the fabric is wonderful. It appeals to me greatly. I also like the Hirbawi from Palestine because it is a few inches larger, making it easier to tuck, tie, and form, but I prefer the Rothco because of the solid colors. I'd recommend getting a Rothco, and if you want to try something else, get a Hirbawi, as I believe having two Shemaghs is a good idea. The Rothco one is unquestionably 5 stars; however, keep in mind that the colors may differ slightly from those shown in the photo.

I have a few of these, and this one is one of the best, with a fine weave and next-to-next-to-next-to-next-to-next-to-next-to-next-to-next-to the- The color was a real selling point for me because it is hard to find
5/5

The scarf provides just the right amount of warmth while avoiding the itching that comes with wool. I recently had neck surgery and needed something to cover up my "Pirate Scar," and this is perfect because it's soft and comfortable even on sensitive skin. You'll enjoy it if you get one.

It was exactly what I needed! I ordered the solid coyote brown color, and it arrived much sooner than I expected
5/5

It works well with Multicam. It is made of 100% cotton and is as good as any other shemagh I have ever worn or used in my life. Rothco produces high-quality products, as evidenced by their shemaghs.
