Let's get down to business. I am 6'3" and 225 pounds, and I wear an XXL tee shirt. The majority of my girth is in my shoulders and chest, with a small amount in my stomach. After reading the reviews, I decided to order an XL tall because the vests are said to run large. I got my vest today and quickly realized it would be better suited to covering a small car than a vest because it doesn't fit close to your body and thus can't keep you warm. I'm going to try on a large tall, despite the fact that I haven't worn a large anything since high school, nearly four decades ago. It's amazing to me that an American company that claims to be the savior of the working man and charges you a fortune for it can't get their India factories to make something that fits Americans the first time. Order one size down from your normal, then order two sizes down and it might fit you. Good luck; if you can find one that fits before spring, it appears to be a fantastic product.
It's a big cut. I'm a big guy, and the 5X is a lot more "roomy" than other sizes.
My wife liked the style and appearance of it so much that "I decided" not to wear it to work: ) and now I'm using it for a night out. So I guess I'll have to duct tape my old nylon vest for another season. br>br>I'm 6'3" and 230 pounds, and mine fits perfectly, especially when paired with a hoodie. It also has a nice, long back.
After I double-checked the Amazon site's fitting chart, which confirmed that I needed a large (as I had for over 40 years), the Amazon site for this vest then suggested that I needed a MEDIUM based on other customers who had purchased this item. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY OUTSOURCED COUNTRIES ARE UNABLE TO FOLLOW OUR SIZING STANDARDS! Is it true that outsourcing has benefited customers? The industry's premise was to keep costs low due to lower labor rates, rather than cheapening products and increasing costs! And the second should receive the same level of product quality, but this is not the case. Even after searching the Carhartt website and Amazon, there was no indication in any advertisement that this was a LOOSE FIT vest vs. a TIGHT FIT vest. It wasn't until I opened the two vest packages and saw several tags on them that said LOOSE FIT that I realized what was going on. Another BAIT, in essence. SWITCH comes to mind, but it's actually how STUPID the industry has become! P. br>br>P. br>br>P. br>br>P. I can't seem to find my standards of clothing in stores any longer, and just because the tags say a size doesn't mean it will fit! I've decided to bring a tape measure with me to check for fit and size, which is ridiculous.
I started with a Large (I've always been a size L in Carhartt). It was HUGE, to say the least. It's two sizes too big, in my opinion - as if it were a size XXL I went back to order a Medium, but it was still too big - and, above all, TOO LONG. br>br>The previous version of this vest sat just below the belt line, around pocket level. Even the Medium I tried was only half-way decent. It went all the way down my thigh. It was completely absurd. Unfortunately, I had to return this as well, and I had to resort to looking for older models that were being offered elsewhere. br>br>I came across a few that fit perfectly.
It's a great looking, durable, warm vest. It's my favorite vest. I usually wear an XL, but this vest required a Large, and I was still able to wear a hooded sweatshirt underneath. Pockets of gold. Two on the inside, three on the outside (two hands, one map pocket on the left breast).
Every Carhartt jacket I've ever owned is a medium, and I've always worn it. This vest is bigger than the rest, even bigger than the standard "carhartt runs big" rule. In this, I'm wearing a size small.
I'm 5'5' short and stocky, well into the 200lb range, wrestler built, and this thing fits larger than a standard large; does it keep you warm, yes; does it keep you looking fresh, yes; does it keep you warm, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
