Questions & Answers

size?

I went with a medium size. I have a 32/33 waist and a 32" inseam; the length is ideal, falling just below my ankles; the waist is snug; I am 6' tall and weigh 155 pounds. After washing in warm water and drying on medium heat, the product did not appear to shrink at all. My only criticism is that they are manufactured in China. But, after all, isn't almost everything manufactured in China?

Will these shrink or expand with use if washed in cold water?

They shrink slightly when washed in hot water, but they are stretchy, so they will fit like new once you put them back on. In the long sleeve shirt I bought (same product, same company), I have to stretch the arms, but it stays in place after that.

Is it necessary to wear underwear (boxers, whitey-whitey-whitey-whitey-whitey-whitey-white titeys, etc.) under these conditions?

Technically, because they're long underwear, you shouldn't have to. Because the seams and elastic waste band are soft, it appears that they're also designed to be worn next to the skin. To be honest, I don't wear underwear under these and it's quite comfortable. You should also keep in mind that wool fibers are antimicrobial and thus do not retain body odors like cotton underwear does. Wearing underwear underneath, particularly cotton underwear, would be pointless in that case. While backpacking, however, I would layer these with lightweight merino wool boxer breifs.

Don't get me wrong, I adore my favorite pair of tops and bottoms
3/5

Don't get me wrong, I adore my favorite pair of tops and bottoms; they literally kept me warm during this bitterly cold winter. When you're outside, they keep you toasty warm, and when you go inside, they keep you cool. In short, they were an excellent purchase, and I have no regrets about spending 132 dollars on the tops and bottoms. br>br>However, the reason I've reduced my rating from 5 to 2 stars is because after only 3 months, I've already worn holes in the crotch, making this a one-season item. Granted, I wore them almost every day for those three months, but for the price, it's absurd that they didn't even last the entire winter. I'm truly disappointed, and I wish I could extol this product's virtues.

After a year of light use, one of the legs has small holes in it! **EDIT 1- 22**
4/5

On December 11, 2020, I bought these for just over a year. Now that the weather drops below 60 degrees F (roughly four months a year), I wear them on a regular basis, but I take care of them because I spend the majority of my time sitting and doing computer work (typing, etc. ). I read that they don't need to be washed very often, so I've only washed them three times, using the gentle cycle, low heat for drying, and so on. They're still warm, but I was disappointed to find two small holes in one leg today. Both aren't huge yet, but it'll only be a matter of time; for the price I paid and on such a tight budget, I expected more. This makes me angry. br>br>Br>Br>Br>Br>Br>Br>Br>Br> I contacted Minus33 directly shortly after this review to inquire about the possibility of continuing to honor the warranty, despite the fact that it was thirteen months rather than a year. They've honored it, much to my surprise! The old pants were sent to them, and new ones are on their way. However, they state that this is a "one-time courtesy," so I doubt their good deeds will be repeated, but I'm glad they're replacing them! I suppose it's something to keep in mind with these in terms of the possibility of holes developing within a year. However, due to their courteous actions, I have upgraded my rating from two to four stars**.

FABULOUS! With a height of 6'2", a weight of 195 pounds, and a waist size of 34", A large is the perfect size
5/5

If you prefer your long johns to be a little loose, an extra-large size will do the trick. It should suffice to say that the size is quite large. The extra wide waistband is fantastic, especially since it is made of the same fabric as the rest of the outfit. I wore these for about 4 to 5 hours today on the back 40, clearing brush and vines from ditches; the temperature was in the mid 30s, and I was very comfortable, neither too hot nor too cold. exactly what I was looking for Minus 33 products have always impressed me when I've bought them. This is yet more proof that Merino wool is fantastic and that M33 is on top of their game! Cotton and poly aren't going to cut it in this situation. In terms of cost, you get what you pay for, and I am well worth it!.

The most comfortable long johns I've ever worn! EVER
5/5

I bought a pair of these for a NYC winter about 7 years ago, but I ordered the wrong size (I ordered a small). This was not the fault of the company; I simply did not know my proper size; however, they were wonderful and I loved them, even repairing them after a few years of hard use. But now that I've found the right size, they're even better. So cuddly and toasty! Because they are TOO warm for inside my store, I can't use them for their intended purpose of being worn under my work uniform! With them under my jeans, I can still feel the wind out here on the winter prairie, but I didn't expect anything less than thick leather to stop it. They keep me warm on my way to and from the car, and they'll see a lot of use in the fall and spring because they're not too hot. Not to mention that the 'expedition' Minus 33 sells, which is a true winter weight version of these, is far too expensive for my budget at nearly $100 per pair. Granted, I'm sure they're worth every penny, but those are pennies I don't have. If I did, I'd get a pair of the expedition weight and a pair of these, as well as a pair of the lightweight ones! This company is fantastic, and their products have always been of high quality. I don't like wearing wool, but these are so soft that I can't tell they're wool! They're also packaged in the most beautiful box, with old-fashioned wrapping paper. a more traditional method: between the folds, with tissue paper! It has such a sophisticated look to it. It appeals to me. br>br>Wash these in a mesh lingerie bag on a cold gentle cycle with no dryer or softener. Believe me when I say that it is well worth it! You'll get at least 7 years out of them, and this is coming from a shivering little southerner forced to live in the frozen wastelands of Minnesota. These are without a doubt my favorite pair of winter underwear, as well as the only ones that I believe are truly worth the money. br>br>Me and my fleece- lined tights from the dollar store are hot but not warm enough, and the coldpruf pair I bought last year is just a low-cut pair. content merino/poly blend that doesn't breathe and is too cold (and baggy! These are light and airy, and they don't feel too confining. Even when it's too hot, I don't notice sweating, and even on windy days, they warm me up. I'm overjoyed that I was able to finally replace my old shoes. Thank you so much, Minus33! You guys are the best!.
