I had expected the width to be much wider

It was intended for my grandson to wear them for his first holy communion therefore, they would not have fit him. It was unfortunate that they didn't seem wide at all and had to be returned. To me, it seems very narrow, with not a lot of "give". Regardless, this is a beautiful piece of workmanship.
