I wouldn't count on it for that level of security. We're ready for anything that comes our way. Teenagers, perhaps, but I'd contact Columbia if I needed that level of security.
For my 6-year-old, I ordered a S, which is a 7/8, and it fit perfectly with plenty of room for growth. Because she is a petite woman, the fit was excellent, and it will continue to be so throughout the season. Assuming that XS is 6/7 and XXS is 5/6?
If you live in a state where the weather gets that cold, it's more of a fall coat. We get quite cold here as well, and she claims that her current coat isn't as warm as her other one.
Hi Dawn: We are fortunate to live in Philadelphia, where the winters are mild. The average high temperature is 32°F, and the average low temperature is 25°F. This jacket kept my granddaughter warm, but I don't believe it would be heavy enough if you lived somewhere colder. She wore layers underneath for extended periods of time outside.

My 5-year-old daughter is a size 7 in everything she wears. She has a strong athletic build and stands tall. The size S (7/8) fits her perfectly on the arms, and the length hits her just below her buttocks, which is an excellent length for keeping warm in the winter. Bright Plum, the color we chose, appears just as bright in person as it does in the photo. The coat is not too bulky to wear with a seatbelt, and while it does not have an OmniHeat lining, I believe it would be warm enough to withstand the majority of the cold temperatures that New England has to offer. br>br>However, the waistband, which tapers in at her natural waist, is so tight that she can only zip it up if she's wearing only ultra-thin thermal shirts underneath her coat. She'll need a different coat for school because she'll be wearing this one over sweaters, layers, and other items. I should mention that after she ate dinner, I tried it on her again, and it was even tighter on her stomach. I'm hesitant to order this in a size M because it's labeled as a size 10/12, but she's nowhere near that size. I've also owned Columbia children's coats before and know that their arms are notoriously long, so the M size sleeves would be absurdly long on her. br>br>Recent changes - The M is a good fit, with long arms and plenty of room for growth!.
It's a little big and the sleeves are a little too long, but that just means we'll be able to use it for another year. The coat completely covers the mouth when zipped up for added warmth. I don't care for faux fur, but she does. If you want to get rid of it, there are buttons for that. We live in Ohio, so I needed a warm coat that was also fashionable, and this coat meets both criteria!.
It fits well, has a nice appearance, and keeps my daughter warm. BUT, before you dry it, remove the fur trim! My daughter had just returned from playing in the snow, and her snow clothes were soaked, so we put them in the dryer for a few minutes. The hood's fur trim was completely ruined by it. I looked all over the internet for a replacement but couldn't find one. I'm not a big fan of fake fur trim, but it looks great on this jacket, so I'm disappointed. My daughter is furious that we ruined it for her. Whoops. I accept responsibility for failing to read the tags, but Columbia should make the fur machine washable and dryable. Parents who work full-time don't have time to babysit their children. Trim the fake fur as needed!.
It's fantastic, and I strongly advise you to buy it. This coat is the perfect fit for my ten-year-old daughter and keeps her toasty warm. I ordered the medium for her because she wears a size 10/12. It's ideal, and I strongly suggest it!.
Coat is ideal for winter. We're from Chicago, and we're looking for a solution to our sub-par internet service. This is great for playing in the snow and on cold days at the playground. It's nice and warm, and it comes in beautiful colors that my fashion-conscious daughters adore. Removable faux fur collar, snow-proof sleeve cuffs, and a longer torso for added warmth. They are completely water proof after being sprayed with camp dry. When they came in from playing in the wet snow, their coats and underwear were still dry. The best coats I've ever seen!.
It appeals to me - This is an attractive jacket that appears to be warm, stylish, and not overly bulky. It has a nice taper at the waist that prevents it from looking like a rectangle while still covering her tush and keeping the wind off her waist. The fur collar is soft and the perfect size to keep out of my daughter's way (though the hood could be a little bigger). The short answer is yes. So far, my daughter adores it, and she'll most likely wear it throughout the winter and on our annual ski trip. If it were my coat, however, I'd want an inside pocket or at least two more pockets - There are only two front zippered handwarmer pockets as it is. br>br>She stands at 9 feet tall. yo girl, and the medium was a perfect fit for her; hopefully, it will last her two years.
I ordered a size 4t for my two-year-old, who stands around 37" tall and weighs 30 pounds. She usually wears 3t, but I wanted to go up a size in case she wanted to wear it next year. It fits well, although the sleeves must be rolled, which isn't a big deal. This color was purchased because it was on sale at the time of purchase, and it turned out to be very cute. I'll be taking it with me on a ski trip to Utah. If you're in between sizes, I'd recommend going up a size; the 3t would've fit perfectly, but as I mentioned, I wanted to size up so she could wear it next year. This purchase has exceeded my expectations for the price I paid. The blue has a slight purple tint to it, which is very appealing.
My daughter, who is almost four years old and weighs 36 pounds, is a little tall for her age. In most of her clothes, she is a 3T/4T. I went with the XXS size. The sizing is odd: the arms are extremely long, but the waist is extremely narrow. Her waist will most likely be too small once her arms are properly fitted. So, that's a letdown. I'd give it five stars if the sizing was better. We live in Iowa, where the temperature can reach the low 40s on occasion, but this coat keeps my daughter warm. I just wish it wasn't so oddly shaped so we could put it to good use next year.
