My 6 year old's head circumference is in the 40th percentile for her age group, so I bought this for her. This is a kinda small place but it's still 'normal'. In addition to the rim, the surrounding edges of the rim also cast shadows on her face, neck, and shoulders. This is the first one I've seen that has adjustable circumference so she can still grow into Besides the adjustable chin strap, I find the fact that it can be thrown off her head by a gust of wind very helpful. The hat I have for my daughter does not cause her to sweat too much because this one is made of a breathable material with a mesh section around the base where heat would be most likely to accumulate. I also noticed that my daughter was also inspired by the side rims that fasten. lol River cowgirl is what she calls herself.
