This is a pair of socks I purchased for my son (7). great stretch, so they would need to be made a little smaller or a little larger if his foot were a little smaller. His pants do not slip down his legs. This is a pair of socks I would purchase

My son wears a size 1 and these Youth L fit him perfectly. It's 5 down to the letter. It is my opinion that you are right - This doesn't make sense when it comes to sizing.

I really like these socks because they are thick, well-made, and stylish. These were previously purchased by me and I continue to wear them There is a small difference between a L and a XL. It fits my 6 yr old just fine (size 1), but my 11 yr old (size 6) seems to be a little short. A little bit more clarity would have been helpful in Amazon's description of the sizing. I would say that the size appears to match that of the package, however. A picture of the package can be seen here. (The 13-inch shoes are intended for people who wear can't seem to find the XL versions.

The large fit my child well, but they might be tight on an average-sized child. However, because my child is skinny and have always been on the lower end of percentiles, these could be a small-sized issue for other children of average height and weight.
