Yes, these anti-slip gel pads are extremely effective! We've been taking longer road trips, and I wanted something to keep my smartphone and small tablet in while we're on the road. These are extremely effective. The pad is larger than most, and it also appears to be tackier. We aren't making any sharp turns or riding on particularly rough terrain, but we are in a stop-and-go situation. On expressways, there may be stop-and-go traffic. In those situations, my smartphone is firmly attached to it.
The entire surface is sticky, which is fantastic; it's also washable and restickable. The two different surfaces are merely a design feature.

This one, unlike the dash, adheres to whatever you put on it. You must remove it from the dash, separate it from the item, and then replace the pad. br>br>I used to have an old one of these that was given to me as a promotional item, and it worked great and never got sticky on top. It remained sealed to the dash and held everything in place, but it never attached itself to the contents. Is it necessary to wash these with soap and water before using them to remove the stickiness from the top? And because they're so sticky, they attract every speck of dirt and dust. It's filthy and inconvenient to use!.
I ignored other reviews that said this pad was too sticky, so I had to find out for myself. This pad was placed on the plastic tray of my truck's console and was primarily used to keep my sunglasses in place. When I pick up my sunglasses from the pad after they've been on it for a while, the pad sticks to my glasses and falls off the console's tray. After that, I must remove the pad from my sunglasses and replace it. While driving, this is especially aggravating. I rarely return items, but this one was completely unusable for me, so I gave it back.

It's sticky, but it doesn't stick to whatever it's stuck to. It's fine as long as you wash it off every now and then.
When the word "sticky" is used, it means exactly that. I use it in my car for my phone, but I can only fit a small portion of my phone on it before I have to peel it off. It's not sticky in the sense that it leaves a residue, but it won't let go! When Saran Wrap gets stuck somewhere you don't want it, for example. Removing it requires two hands.
I was able to cut it down to size as needed.

This is actually a pad that I use to keep my track ball from bouncing around my desk. It's fantastic.
