In my husband's case, it fits great, since I bought the Merkur at the same time as this one.
A half inch is between the tines (inside diameter) and 3/4 inches is the length. Razors such as the Super Speed fit well, but they're not very secure. It is easily knocked off with just a slight bump. Aside from that, it is a good product.
I wasn't able to find any Merkur 36cs (but found a 34a and a 38a). As far as I know, I have the long handled Merkur 38c and it fits perfectly. In addition to the short handled safety razor, this holder will fit any longer handled safety razor.
I know for a fact that this razor is NOT Harry's "Truman." blade. It is for this reason that I am returning it.

purchased this for my roommate, and he said he really liked it. It is the perfect size for a perfecto brush, too. I chose the Merkur DE razor for him because it also fits his other side well. It appears that the stand is made by the same company that makes On Amazon, the wooden handle does not fit into the holder as shown on the picture. In the picture you showed, I put the wooden handle in the holder as shown. There was a leak in the plug (holding all the bristles) of the brush. My brush is now damaged, so I need some crazy glue to fix it. I just didn't understand how the Amazon display worked for the holder.
It holds my Maggard MR18c and large synthetic brush easily and gives them a great looking display.
