I bought this as a reusable tampon for my wife, but the look of disappointment and disgust on her face when I presented it to her on our anniversary told me I'd made a huge mistake. With my next wife, I will not make the same mistake.
I'm not an expert, and I occasionally cut too close to the bone. My dogs forgive me quickly, but the blood flow does not. This pencil aids in the rapid and complete cessation of the flow, allowing us to proceed with the grooming procedure. One of those things you hope you'll never need, but when you do, you'll be glad you have it. This is exactly the right size and shape for what I need it to do.
Instead, I've always seen toilet paper bits stuck all over shaving cuts, which makes less sense. These are fantastic for minor cuts like paper cuts because they not only stop a small but annoying bleed, but they also don't sting. Any stinging or pain appears to go away faster without the usual irritations that we subject cuts to. br>br>I would definitely recommend these to anyone, and at such a low price for a tool that you may never need another of (they don't wear out), it's not even a risk to give them a try.
I've been shaving with the same septic pencil since I was about 16, which is more than 50 years ago. So I decided it was time to get a new one; I figured the chemicals must have worn out by now, but I had been using an electric shaver for a number of years before switching back to a straight shaver. Because I'm on blood thinners, I needed a septic pencil to stop bleeding from minor cuts and nicks.
This is the third time I've purchased this item. As expected/desired, it stops the minor bleeding. You get a lot more for a lot less money, and it works just as well as the styptic pencil from The Art of Shaving. It isn't particularly soft, but that isn't what I'm looking for in a styptic pencil. I wet it first, then apply it, then rinse it and return it to the plastic container with the lid. It functions admirably. I'm going to buy more.
I'm not sure how I got along without one for wet shaving all these years! I cut my hand on the first day I received it and decided to give it a try. The bleeding stopped in a matter of seconds, and that was the end of it - There's no reason to use a band-aid. It is extremely effective. It'll live in my shave bowl for the rest of my life. It's not so much that it replaces my alum block as it is that it adds another layer of functionality to it: After shaving, I use an alum block to tighten and refresh my face, and I use a pencil to draw blood.
I was under the impression that these were no longer produced. Even though I shave with a three-blade razor and a lubristrip, I still bleed during the majority of my shaves. It's a big styptic rod. Enough to keep me going for the rest of my life.
The old-fashioned way This large, easy-to-handle, easy-to-find styptic pencil will last you for years. When you use it, it stings a little at first, but it quickly stops the bleeding so you can get on with your day with a clean, close shave.
