Hard plastic of some sort
"How long does a brush last?" I assume the question is. That is a difficult question to answer because it is highly dependent on how you intend to use it. If you use this brush as your only brush and use it every day, it will wear out much faster than if you rotate it with other brushes and let it dry completely between uses. The brush's longevity is also determined by how well it is cared for. With proper care, a high-quality brush can last a lifetime; I have a Barbershop brand boar brush that I've had for over 30 years, but I don't use it on a regular basis. Others have claimed to have badger brushes that are even older than mine. However, because I don't consider this Van Der Hagen brush to be "high quality," I don't expect it to last nearly as long. If you take good care of it, it may last for several years.

I ordered one for my fiance because he was in need of a new one. He'll only use this brand, and the box was squished open and the handle was cracked when it arrived in my mailbox. It's a fantastic brand, and I'm still trying to make contact with someone who can help me get this set up. I'm sure he'll continue to use the brush, but I didn't pay for a product that was damaged and delivered to me in that condition. I'll keep buying this even when my son reaches adolescence and his father teaches him how to shave, but until then, he can just watch his father.
I'M A SNOB FROM VANDERHAGEN. For years, I've relied solely on their shaving soap and brushes. I HAD A 12 YEAR OLD BRUSH THAT I USED EVERY DAY UNTIL THIS NEW ONE CAME IN, AND NOW I USE THE OLD ONE IN MY WEEKLY TRAVEL, AND THE BRUSH IS JUST NOW BEGINNING TO SHED.
After a month, the brush's handle broke off. It's now past the return window, and my husband is left with a brush with no handle. What you pay for is exactly what you get.
I was looking through my previous orders and noticed that I had purchased this item seven years ago. I shave two or three times per week on average. It still works fine; I recall a period of shedding, but that was short-lived. And I vaguely recall it having a strong odor, but that was a long time ago.
After some hot glue corrections, I am now satisfied with the finished product. I'd suggest it.
Brush and handle are glued together, but the glue failed after the first use. I'm going to try to put it back together with glue.
So good. Van Der Hagen products are always a hit with me, and this brush was no exception. I previously owned a boar hair brush, which I disliked. The coarseness of the boar brush caused more harm than good. I'd heard the badger brush was softer, so I gave it a try, and it was AMAZING. It was smooth and pliable, and it held its shape well. Definitely going to tell others about it!.
Badger bristles are soft, but they shed profusely. Not bad for the money, but the Yaqi synthetic I got was less expensive, softer, felt divine on my face, lathered better, and didn't shed.
