I didn't care for the brush stand that came with it- due to the fact that it was too small I settled on my black Muehle plastic stand, which works well and claims to fit brushes with 21 mm handles.
I'm not sure, but this has always felt like pure badger to me in terms of stiffness and bristle feel. It has a similar feel to my Parker pure badger brush, though it is a little stiffer. Overall, I'm a big fan of this brush. I use it with both hard soaps and creams because it exfoliates well while still holding a lot of water. You'd have to go with boar if you wanted more tenacity.

This was my first purchase of a shaving brush. The Black Badger brush (sturdier than a Pure or Silver Tip), the Marble and Chrome Handle, and the price point were all factors that drew me to this item. After receiving this item, I noticed that the brush/handle combo has a nice heft to it and is very classy in appearance. What I also like about the handle is that it's just the right size for me to palm the brush handle while loading the brush and using my fingers to grasp the bristles near the knot to adjust the backbone (flex). This also gives you a lot of control over how you apply soap to your face. I detected an animal odor after unboxing this brush, but it was not overpowering. After three uses, the odor began to fade, and after six uses, it was completely gone. The Black Badger has stiffer hair than the Silver Tip and is therefore less desirable. A Black Badger brush, on the other hand, provides excellent value. If you're new to wet shaving, this Badger Brush is a great place to start. If the smell is a turn-off, try the Parker synthetic brushes, which don't require any break-in time. It is required. You're not going to be let down.

Because it appears to be of good quality, two stars are awarded. I'll give it that, but it's mediocre at best; it's prickly and irritates my skin, and it smells terrible at first. I've never had a problem with badger brushes in my 20 years of wet shaving, and I own a lot of them. This was the worst odor I'd ever encountered. This is my recommendation. Get yourself a Muhle brush for a few extra dollars. You'll be glad you took the time to do so. I'm sorry, but I won't be able to return this one. That is exactly what I would have done.
Parker has a lot of good reviews, so I decided to give it a shot. I'm so glad I spent the money on a higher-quality brush! You could tell you were dealing with something special as soon as I opened it and picked it up. It has a nice weight to it, and the knot is dense enough to produce a good lather. After reading some of the other reviews, I agree that the bristles are a little stiff. Having said that, I've already used it five or six times and can feel the bristles breaking in. Overall, I'm happy with this purchase; it looks great in my stand, lathers well with my gondolier soap, and has a great look with the Ivory marble. I hope this information is useful.

The black badger hair is soft, but not as soft as my light colored badger, which is exactly what I wanted. It lathers up easily with any shave soap I have on hand and feels nice against my face when I use it. The product is of excellent quality and comes at a reasonable cost.
