Examine each unit's power supply (batteries or adapter). Contact the manufacturer's customer service department if this does not resolve the issue.
I turn up the volume to the highest setting because I can't get any louder. Because I use it to care for an elderly lady, it is not sensitive to hearing breathing.
Yes, you must plug in the baby monitor. The parent speaker can be powered by either batteries or electricity.

This is a fantastic, low-cost monitor to use for a while. The audio quality is exceptional. When my little one screams at the top of her lungs (tantrum during time out), the sound cuts in and out a little. I deducted one star because when she screams at the top of her lungs (tantrum during time out), the sound cuts in and out a little. It's almost as if the speaker is trying to protect himself. This has had no effect on its effectiveness because I can hear her long before she reaches that volume. I haven't had the opportunity to test its range, so I can't comment on it. I would have only given it three stars if it had been a more expensive unit. However, for the price, it performs admirably; the sound quality is twice that of a much more expensive system I previously owned. After that one broke down, I got this one to use as a stand-in until I could find a nice screen setup. I never bothered to upgrade because this one is perfectly adequate. This is the second one I've bought (my stepson feels safer knowing we'd be able to hear him if something went wrong). We bought the first one two years ago, and it's still going strong. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> The previous one had passed away. Then came the death of the NEW one as well. The sound is good at first, but the speaker becomes very staticky after a few weeks. If there were any loud noises, it would then turn off. As an example, crying. Useless! Even with the volume turned all the way down, it's still a little creepy.
This is a very low-cost item that does not function. You can hear very low sounds if you put it to your ear.
It functions perfectly.
This device is a shambles. I bought one a few months ago and just recently gave up. It is extremely low-cost. Massive amounts of intermittent static woke me up a million times on the parent unit. I repeated the process of adjusting the unit's and the cord's positions. It's only gotten worse with time, and all I want to do now is slam it down with a sledge hammer. I'm glad the new, more expensive one I ordered (of a different brand) arrived today so I can toss this piece of garbage in the trash.
What good is a monitor if you can't hear what it's saying? I have two older children and use this for my twin babies, and I can't tell if they're crying or if I'm imagining it. Maybe if you only have one child and live in a quiet environment. But what about us? We're getting rid of it and replacing it with something that actually works.
I bought it for around $16 at Walmart, just like everyone else. The microphone is adequate, but the parent unit's speaker, even when turned all the way up, is a major drawback. If you hold it up to your ear or if you're in a completely silent room, you'll be able to hear it.
