Is it true that these tires don't have tubes in them?

They're tubeless, to be sure.

I have a 1967 Beetle and require a spare to connect my trunk window washer. Will this tire, mounted on a 15-inch rim, fit in the spare tire compartment?

This tire has a 25-inch overall diameter. a section width of 6 inches and a length of 4 inches 5 inches.

Is this a good replacement for the VW Thing with a 5 cylinder engine? A rim that's 5" wide?

I've had these on my 1967 VW Beetle for a while now. They replaced an older set of Nankangs, and I'm very pleased with the Nexens' ride, grip, and comfort. Take a chance.
