To do some repairs on some vintage fans and the dash of my truck, I purchased this kit. Since the return window closed after I started the work I missed the start of the work. As I began to use the hot stapler, I found that only one of the two probes had a hole where I could It worked for some dash repairs, but once I get it back together, I will need to either drill out a new hole or disassemble the unit to see if the probe was installed backward (and drill and tap a hole for the retainer if it was). There is no need to install a new probe. I will simply connect in a new brass tube that's brazed to the existing one. I received a device for a good price and it heats up the staples quite well, but quality control sucked.
Upon learning that it blinks blue when it is cold, light red when heating, and solid blue when cooling, it took me a minute to figure out that it displays these messages. The best part about this product is that it is considerably cheaper than most others.
My choice of this tool proved to be a wise one. A practical application shows it to be extremely maneuverable. Based on the instructions that were provided with the kit, I was able to repair a piece of interior plastic. It worked better than expected and with the staples flush cut and surface prepped, I added a layer of flexible epoxy to make for a finished project that was both successful and aesthetic.
If you want to fix plastic, this thing is genius - it can fix anything that can't be glued. Using the hot staples, you do have to take care not to punch through all the way, and you have to be patient for about 30 seconds so the plastic can cool enough so you can remove the tool. There will be some overheating after a while, I probably did 30 minutes or so There were only 40 staples before it became too hot, so I placed it in the freezer for ten minutes and then continued to work. An indispensable tool for anyone wishing to do it themselves.
As a matter of fact, I was surprised by how well it worked. As the staples penetrated deeply into the plastic, they were easily embedded. It was easy to continue with the rest of the repair because the joints were strong and stable. The tool could have been given five stars if it had instructions on how to use it, and what the different types of staples are good for.
I really like it! The price was well worth it and there are plenty of different kinds of staples included. The staple expands when wet and strengthens the bond if we use a hot knife to refill the plastic after the staple is inserted. I've used it for everything from bumpers to headlight screw tabs. This tool has not failed me and I would buy it again if anything were to happen to it.
Having been a UTV racer for years, I highly recommend this product for fixing plastic bumpers and.
In the end, this piece of plastic cost $800, but it was stronger than it had been prior to being stitched together. The only thing I didn't like is that if you stitch the inner edges of a large long split, the machine overheats and you have to let it cool. It would have been better to have vents in the roof to keep it cool.
