Questions & Answers

The welder has a power output of what number of watts?

The following product was just received from Amazon (2020- ) The eighth point). I hooked it up to the kill switch I've checked the Amazon specs for the Watt device, and it shows less than 80 watts, as specified. While the packaging says 200 watts, the Hobie website says otherwise. It is for this reason that the confusion exists. It is also recommended that the KC Pro be powered with 200 watts. Could that be the maximum that can be generated?

Which tip is wider, the narrower one or the widest one? For me to fix a crack, I have to enter a very narrow space. ?

There is probably about three-eighths of an inch or so of width at the tip. In order for it to work, it depends on how narrow the area you are working in is. As the welding rod is moved through the insert at the top of the tip, the plastic melts and drips into the area you are working in. This ensures the welding tip won't go into the area rather than go over the top of it.

Is there a place where I can buy papaya plastic welding rods for my Hobie ?

The factory will send it to you free of charge if you contact them directly. This project will not require a rod but instead scrap plastic, which will work

It's a small gas tank, and I have a question. A small leak is present in the connection between the motor and this pipe. How well does this tool work with this plastic material?

As long as the gas tank is made of type 2 plastic, you should not encounter any issues in fixing it.

The plastic welder is a good little tool
5/5

It is very useful that welding rods can be fed into the welding table. A welder like this one was purchased for a customer of my fab shop in order to complete a project. A steel table was made for them, but the plastic funnels had to be modified so that it could be used with In plastic, there are epoxy and glue options, but, just as with steel, welding is the most effective joining method. In stitches or in band-aids, which do you have more faith in? If I get a serious cut, I'm going to need If I have to join two pieces of weldable material, I will always go for a weld. There is no comparison between the design of this welder and the design of other similar welders (such as When it comes to plastic, you need to press the two materials together and weave them to ensure a tight fit. It's going to be a big The tip weight of the welder should not be the sole determinant. As a welder, the HF is basically just a soldering iron with a small brass or steel foot attached. The plastic will begin to bend when you push that into it, and it will always bend and deform in the long run. The more you bend it back to straighten it up, the more likely you are to You have to weld it again with another welder after it goes in the round filing cabinet. There is no such thing as that. I worked on a project that was roughly 10 feet in length. Weld joints consist of 1/4" thick LDPE which is all used as material. If I was going to weld a plastic joint on the top and bottom I would weld the two joints together. Then I had 20 feet of LDPE to weld on 1/4" thick. Completing this task will not be easy or fast. With this welder, I had welded for about five hours at the end of it all. On thinner materials, the process would not have taken as long as it did. I started using a Wagner heat gun to warm up the weld joints at some point. The LDPE rods that I used were readily available on Amazon, and I purchased them there. This sped up things considerably and gave me better results.

Amazon has several plastic welding rod options, including LDPE rods. For this welder, rods with a 3/16" diameter fit precisely in the feed port. My welder was right handed so here is how I used it. As I held the welder with my left hand, I would feed in the welding rod at the farthest point and pull it in the left direction. I controlled the welding rod in my right hand, and the welder was in my I found that by applying light pressure to the welder tip to the joint, pushing the welding rod through it, and then pulling the welder through the joint, I was able to achieve the best results. In order to avoid underheating or overheating the joint, the welding rod must be fed in order to move the welder along on its way. A welder head has a feed port that's angled so that when you push on the rod to feed it in, it responds by naturally pulling it back in the direction you pushed. In a nutshell, I'm talking about orienting a stick or MIG weld so that it can be pulled or pushed in a specific direction. Placing four pillows under the body In my case I used the welding rods to make 6" long beads, then I went back and wove across the bead from side to side from the push direction to the joint and When I feed the welding rod in, I pull the welder while feeding the welding rod, and then I stop feeding the welding rod and weave side to side across that welded area, going in the other direction (in the opposite direction). With this technique, distortion was not an issue for me. Keep the tip clean and you will be able to help. The tip of the welder is always getting a little bit of residual plastic during and between welds. When the welder is left sitting there without being used, the little remnants will burn, even if you unplug it immediately. Your next welding project will look terrible if those little charred particles end up embedded inside. Although I am unsure of its impact on the integrity of the weld I do not believe it helps it in any way. In my welding process, I leave the welder plugged in for 15 minutes and just let it smoke for a few minutes while I wait for the maximum temperature to reach. Although the plastic will burn off, it won't fill the room with smoke or anything else but will emit a little smoke as it With a 3/16" wooden dowel, I push out any plastic left in the feed port and sprinkle it on a piece of trash cardboard. A 22 caliber bronze or brass gun cleaning brush fits perfectly in there to clean it thoroughly while it is Then I used a small bronze bristle brush (available on Amazon - see below) If you are looking for gun cleaning brushes, you will find these toothbrush-looking items) and clean the tips outside as well. Using the bronze bristles won't damage the hot bronze welding tip in any way. Having cleaned up everything, I will unplug the welder and let it cool slowly for 10 or so minutes until it is not too hot to handle. Once I've put it away, I'll get rid of it. Despite looking for and looking at similar welders with pistol grips instead of screwdriver shapes like this one, I could not find one with the shape I was looking for. During the welding process, it is necessary to apply some sustained and considerate downward pressure to the weld joint. Compared to the straight screwdriver, it would be much more ergonomic to do that job for an extended period of time with a pistol grip or even partially angled grip. This would make a big difference in lessening fatigue on bigger welding projects. By choosing a straight design welder, you'll be able to get into smaller spaces than a welder with a pistol grip or an In most cases an angle on the grip would be very useful around a joint where space is not a problem. Keeping an eye out for an angled grip welder is still on my list, but this straight one will do the job as well.

Thanks to the Hobie, I am glad to have purchased it
5/5

Having never used such a machine or seen one (other than photos), I have no idea what plastic welding is. The plan originally was to buy a cheap welder from Harbor Freight. I bought a Hobie after reading the reviews of both. As a result of using it on several projects, including two small engine fuel tanks and aftermarket fender flares for my Samurai, I am very pleased with my Hobie purchase. With a heavy duty tip, it is very well built. In spite of the fact that pressure is not needed, it is natural for a cheap welder to bend and shatter the tip. Filler rod is fed into holes in the top of the machine, the rods are melted, and precision control can be provided in the placement of the filler rods. No negative effects were noticed on the welder after leaving it on for more than six continuous hours.

Tool that every business owner should have
4/5

We use a plastic welding tool to do repairs on our kayaks, so it's worth the cost. The kayak my son and I were walking from the lake to the truck got dropped by my autistic son on the way. I watched a lot of YouTube videos on plastic welding tools and compared them all to see which was the best. Plastic welding tools that cost less than this one cost tend to bend after use, but most other plastic welding tools may not bend at all. This plastic welding tool, which connects to plastic welding sticks through a feeding hole on the iron tip, was simple to use. There is only one downfall with this product, and that is the delivery time. It took one whole week and a half to get it here. This is why 4 stars are given. There are many cheaper welding tools on the market, but this one is definitely higher quality. Just keep in mind that you get what you pay for if you choose that route. When the price is low, the quality is low. The tool does not have a long lifespan. In comparison, this will definitely come in handy and will always be ready for use, just so long as you keep it clean and maintained properly.

He is an excellent The purpose of the purchase was to weld the broken tabs on the headlights of an I was satisfied with the outcome
5/5

As I am a relatively quick learner, I only touched it once with my finger and quickly moved away from it once I realized it was really hot. As a result of the thick cord and the heavy tip, That's our job. As opposed to those sold by , it will not bend out of shape under pressure. Transport of goods. The welder looks like a "need to be bought only once" type A lifetime quality tool appears to be presented by the apparent high quality. I have experience in multiple fields In my job as a tradesman, I use a wide array of tools, all of which are essential for my livelihood It is important to me that I do not have to replace inferior tools because I realize the value of not having to.

I got my old town canoe up and running again with your fix! My old town canoe had some holes in it
5/5

So, I bought some green ldpe rod and this little iron to fix them. Perfect! Thank you very much! Before purchasing your kit, I purchased the old town epoxy patch kit, which is made up of fiberglass material and Polyethylene canoe hulls are too smooth for anything to stick to them. Despite staying in place for about three years, the epoxy patches started to peel around the edges immediately. In the end I was able to grab a corner and peel off the old bandaid. After reading a bit I realized that welding was the best solution for this problem. There are many similarities between soldering and this process. To blend the new and old material together, you need to get the work piece hot and melting before melting the new material into it. I worked on each hole for a few minutes and they looked great. After going to the lake a few times there are no indications of failure. You've done a great job!.

The ease of use and durability of the product
5/5

You will see a quick return on your investment! If you don't care about the look of it, you can use just about any plastic you have lying around. I have repaired multiple toys and an air fryer that cost over $100 and was completely useless. Even though it might seem tempting to do so, refrain from applying pressure. The welding rod does its job best when it is allowed to run slowly. It might take a while to figure out how to make it look nice, but you can do it. This FAR is superior to the Harbor Freight welding rod and I strongly.
