I used it to clean up two walled-out transmission mount holes on the backside of a Honda Civic engine. To make it appear as if something was in there, the previous owners had left two completely stripped out bolts in the holes. As a result, the entire motor was able to pivot on the other bolt, causing these to ovalize. br>br>I was successful in drilling out the hole and installing the time sert. Because of the oval shape of the hole, the fit wasn't perfect, but I didn't want to go up a bolt size because that would require me to machine the mount, and there was no way to fill the hole with the motor in the car. They shouldn't move because I used green loctite to keep them in place. Yes, the kit is expensive, especially if you're coming from the helicoil world, but time sert is to helicoil what an actual weld is to jb weld. One will suffice in an emergency, while the other is a proper repair. As demand dictates, I will expand my tool collection to include other sizes of repair kits.
Used on a Honda to repair a transmission mount bolt hole in the aluminum transmission case and bellhousing bolt holes in the aluminum engine block, much easier than a helicoil and much more permanent. I'm just hoping the time sert's coating holds up and prevents a dissimilar metal reaction.
The cylinder head threads were pulled out of one hole on a Toyota 22R block I bought. I purchased a 24mm insert, and with this kit, I was able to re-thread the hole with beautiful, clean threads. Like the others, the head bolt was torqued down to 60 ft lbs. I used a speed controlled 1/2' drill because my tap holder was too small to hold the tooling. I used two short pieces of angle iron as guides to keep the bit straight in both planes, and it worked fine; all of the machine work had already been done on this block, so I was able to save all of that money for the tool.
On my 22RE, I mended the head bolt threads. The system is excellent, and I was able to torque down the head without difficulty. In a situation like this, a helicoil is preferable.
Nice kit! Everything was simple to put together.
The product does exactly what it says on the tin. Although it is pricey, it is inexpensive when compared to alternatives and appears to be much more durable when compared to similar products. When advertised at around 85% of the original cost, added benefit sells well.
The hole where my lower control arm attaches to the car has been repaired. My only gripe is that two of the counterbore tool's cutting teeth broke off after only one use. When it arrived, the security seal in the case had been broken, but all of the parts were intact and brand new.
The best rethreading kit for oil pans available. I would strongly suggest it. It's a little pricey, but it's a lot less expensive than buying a new pan. A real lifesaver for those aluminum oil pans on Hondas, VWs, and other vehicles that eventually lose their threads when the plug is removed. Purchase some kits, then stock up on thread inserts.
