Nope - For CV joints, this method does not work. You're not clinging to your partner tightly enough.

I wasn't able to get it as tight as I wanted

This item was purchased to replace a missing strap on the front CV boot of my truck. It was a good fit, but I couldn't get it tight enough. There are no instructions or suggestions for doing so. I tried a variety of tools and methods but couldn't seem to get it as tight as I wanted. In my opinion, it is largely ineffective. sorry.
