This review only applies to the plain band tightening tool; I haven't tried the ear band tightening tool yet. This tool is made in China and is of low quality. Because the winding mandrel isn't held in place by anything, it keeps slipping out of its slot/hole. There is a retainer on the cutting portion that keeps it from slipping out. Why wasn't there a retainer on the winding mandrel as well? Annoying. Because the winding mandrel is a little slippery and doesn't grab onto the plain band, it's difficult to tighten the band enough to get a good clamp when you're done, so you end up with a slightly undertightened clamp. This isn't usually a problem with ear-type clamp pliers. In addition, the cutting mechanism's handle was installed backwards, so I had to force it out and reinstall it to get it to work properly. This is a quality control issue with the tool's assembly. Yes, it functions, but given the flaws I've identified, I'd give it only two stars.
I was struck by the fact that the wind was blowing in the opposite direction. There is a flaw in the design of the up tool. Another reviewer voiced his opinion on the same topic. The part of the band that creates tension is far too far away from the tip. As a result, you must always begin with a large clamp in order to reach the catch slot. The manufacturer could have easily shortened the tool by more than an inch just by looking at it, making it more efficient. The catch is also too slick, and it does not clamp the CV band tightly enough to ensure a well-tensioned clamp. Most of the time, the end result is a sloppy band, which is very disappointing. The band cutter, on the other hand, works perfectly.
It worked on two boot bands for CV joints in the drive shaft. You must learn how the devices work in terms of mechanics and logic. NO INSTRUCTIONS ARE PROVIDED. Once you've mastered that, it'll be a breeze to tighten the band, but you'll still need to tap the band clamp down to keep it in place. In conclusion, this is a fantastic tool for use on a limited basis. Although it is not a professional tool, it does the job well and at a low cost. Best of luck, and thanks for making this available at such a low cost.
I'd return my money if I could get it back. Spend the money on a more advanced version of both. They were not as effective as some of the others I've tried. I just felt cheap, so I had to force them to do what they were supposed to do with half the effort.
Overall, the toolset is of reasonable quality for the price; the band tightening tool performed admirably and without issue; the crimp pliers, on the other hand, are merely adequate. The ends that grab the cv cramp aren't tapered (sharp) enough and are a little blunt. Using a file or a Dremel for a few minutes- This is something that the style tool will take care of. The set is unlikely to withstand heavy use, but it should suffice for most car-related needs. a do-it-yourselfer who is only interested in CV boot 3- This is a good starter set for someone who will use it five times in their lifetime.
The tool did exactly what it was supposed to do. A ratchet should be included to help hold the clamp in place until it is cut.
The item was well-packaged and delivered on time. It performs as expected. It's useful to have both types of banding clamps.
It worked perfectly.
