A SMALL SEAL will do just as well as a larger one.
What is your reasoning for not doing so? It should be able to lift a 6 inch circ seal without much effort, as long as you use the tool straight. You should not use the tool in a sideways manner. Then you get out a nail looking like you just used a hammer - not very good!

I was able to make it work, but that was The following points are well worth mentioning The seal removing hook portion of the tool is made of good quality steel, making it well made. Also included with the kit is a spare seal removal hook, shown in the picture. (Why would you need another A diameter hook and two radius hooks are also included. There are a few points to avoid This tool tends to rip a gash into the old seal when removing the seal, because it is just too thin for the job. Once you have done so, you will have to go to a different part of the seal. If you get a really stubborn seal, this could be a problem for you since there is no good meat left to pry against because the seal has been heavily gashed. It almost didn't occur to me to take mine out. The seal pullers I have seen are 1/4" wide, so tearing a gash is nothing to worry about. You can see what I mean by looking closely at the picture. This one is only about 1/8" wide. That's not to say that I'm negative. It would have been impossible for me to remove the rear axle seals on my 98 Expedition without a seal puller (don't even think of using a screwdriver), but there are better ones available. Although the price is reasonable, it is a bit on the high side. It would be better to get a wider one if I was doing seals all the time.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make use of this tool. Seal pullers have a blade thin enough to almost appear like a knife, so that they can cut through sealed surfaces effortlessly. In my experience, I found most success with a flathead screwdriver on a pinion seal on my differential. It would be better for me to use my screwdriver that is already in my possession rather than continue to spend money on this unnecessary tool.
One of the tools I purchased was to replace one that was on a tool truck that I'd Having picked up the old motor in the garage with my 4 year old son sent it away to Never Never Land.
This one pulled out the seals quite well. In just my first two days of using these seals, I've already experienced a significant bend at the puller head. Using this tool, I succeeded in pulling the seals out, which I would not have been able to do otherwise. There are other brands out there with better quality Steel, but this is not one of them.
Seals are some things that you can't dig out with a screwdriver. Where this tool stands out like the sun is in that situation! Now that it is in my toolbox, I am so glad. As well as being very good quality.
Heavy Duty tool that is made of solid steel and is included with an additional attachment in case the original wears out after heavy use for 20 years. To prevent accidental scoring on aluminum cases, the spike tips on the head might need to be rounded off a bit. Excellent tool. I highly recommend it.
I used it on both small and large diameter seals with great success. Because there are two sizes of hooks that are perfect, removing seals is a piece of cake. It also has a comfortable handle, which is better than the "dipped" handle other brands have.
Grease seals can be easily pulled from boat or utility trailers with this puller. Ones stuck in come out easily even when they are stuck. You're a lot more likely to succeed with a screwdriver than a screwdriver itself. Probably I would have discovered this tool years ago if I knew it existed. Five stars from the bottom of my heart!.
Seal pullers are cheap and bend before removing the seal, and that's why you should be careful regarding their use. Using a tool designed for OTC, this puller loosened a seal with silicone sealer that refused to come off without bending or flexing I believe it will last me for a long time, and it will make a wonderful addition to my tool box.
