Questions & Answers

There is no way to rename the devices, as far as I can tell. I don't have any other Victron products or their network system; all I have is this item and the iPhone app. ?

Go into the app, select the Smart Battery Sense you want to rename, then tap the gear icon in the right corner, tap the three dots in the right corner, tap "product info," and change the name.

If I already own a Victory bmv- Is there any advantage to the 712 battery monitor? Is it possible to communicate with the victron mppt solar charger using the battery monitor?

This device will not add any functionality to your 712 if you already have the optional temperature sensor connected. If you don't, this device will send battery temperature to the MPPT over Bluetooth if both devices are connected via a VE. The VictronConnect app makes it simple to set up a smart network. Is it possible to use (1) in parallel with (3) batteries?

I'm not sure what the question is asking for, but here's my take on it: br>The sensor can only detect the temperature of the battery to which it is connected. It is, however, intended for environmental feedback rather than battery health diagnosis. If the condition of all the batteries is the same. The temperature should be nearly identical for all of them, and the reading is a good representation of the controller's maximum charging voltage. I use two Group24 batteries in parallel, and the sensor works fine for me.

A distance of ten meters is equal to a distance of thirty-two meters
5/5

8 feet! And, based on my use and experience with the Victron Battery Smart Sense Long Range (10 meters), I'd say that's about right on the money. br>br>I have this unit mounted on the tongue of my RV trailer, and the Bluetooth device makes everything so much easier. I can use a more aggressive charging profile now that I have a temperature sensing sending unit mounted on one of my Duracell Ultra AGM Deep Cycle Batteries; when boondocking, you need all the power you can get! br>br>On my RV, this is part of a solar array. Despite the aluminum diamond rock guard on the front of the RV in-ground, two 100 watt Renogy Mono panels and a Victron 15/75 Smart Solar charge controller communicate with each other without issue. between the battery boxes and the ten-foot distance between the controller and the battery boxes Outside of the RV, 32 feet is the absolute minimum distance required for this unit to connect to a Nokia Android phone. br>br>The Victron Connect app provides a basic interface for viewing voltage and temperature. It was simple and quick to set up the system's network connection. br>br>The device comes with a self-adhesive peel and stick, but make sure your battery is clean first; mine is still stuck on there after the summer. br>br>Use 000000 as your password when pairing.

Installing it was a breeze, and it worked flawlessly
5/5

There isn't much to say about a product that took less than five minutes to install and worked flawlessly right out of the box. Of course, I wish it was less expensive. Who wouldn't be interested in that? My only reservation is that I wish it was made clearer that this product will prevent my expensive LiFePO4 battery bank from being charged and destroyed by my Victron solar controller on the same network when the battery temperature is below freezing via bluetooth networking. This information was surprisingly difficult to come by, despite the fact that it was the reason I purchased the product in the first place.

Works well with the Solar Generator that you made yourself
5/5

The Bluetooth enabled battery temperature/voltage gage works well with the Victron solar charge controller () and the Victron Inverter () that I built.

Hungry
3/5

The AmpereTime battery bank is fed by two excellent Victron controllers. This device gives the controllers a precise bank voltage (which matches the Thornwave shunt battery monitor) and protects the LiFePO4 bank from low temperature charging. However. A 7 is what I'm seeing. After plugging it in, the device will produce a 3W load. Seven watts, not seven milliwatts. Is this accurate? Overnight, I've noticed small voltage drops that support that figure, and my battery disconnect has been set to disconnected. It won't matter to me because I have enough solar and bank, but if you're counting every watt hour with a smaller battery bank, you should be aware.

These are fantastic
5/5

I don't want or need to put smart shunts or BMVs on any of my hacked-together battery packs, especially the portable packs I've made where space is limited. I already had my smart BMS units monitoring the state of charge, so I didn't need that part of the smart shunt/bmv in the first place. I've installed two of these in portable packs and have one Victron SmartSolar MPPT that I use to charge them as needed. br>br>I've installed two of these in portable packs and have one Victron SmartSolar MPPT that I use to charge them as needed. I simply connect to the appropriate VE Smart Network for the battery pack I'm charging and leave it to its own devices. I don't have to mess around with absorption voltage settings to account for the wire run length between the MPPT and the pack any longer. br>br>One thing I've noticed is that the voltage reading on the MPPT takes a few minutes to match what the smart battery sense reports. Example: Battery voltage (measured with a multimeter directly on the terminals or from a BMS): 40v. It's possible that Smart BatterySense will show a number of thirteen. 42v. It's possible that MPPT from a smart network will show a number of thirteen. 78v. After that, I connect to the network, and the MPPT voltage drops to 13. After a few minutes, the voltage drops to 48 volts and eventually reflects the 13 volts reported by the batterysense. Although this is not a problem, it is worth noting.

Love it! I decided to make the Victron leap after using less expensive devices for my DIY solar generator projects
5/5

This device is significantly more expensive, but it performs exactly as advertised on YouTube and other review sites. My requirements for Bluetooth range were met. I can look at battery information on my phone without having to open my generator cover or do any physical gymnastics. Victron Smart Shunt and Controller were seamless in their integration. There was a lot of information in the online manual and FAQ section. Because the online instructions were written for an older wire-only model, I had a little trouble installing it. Installation was a breeze once the issues were resolved. There is no need to use the Smart Shunt's Auxiliary port unless you have their advanced devices because this unit installs positive and negative battery poles directly. There are still a lot of settings to check out.

Victron is a company that produces high-quality goods
5/5

These have been added to my MPPT charge controller setup, which makes use of Victron's smart networking capabilities. Installation was a breeze, and pairing and network configuration were a breeze as well. Now, even though I'm 8 feet away, my charge controller will compensate for the temperature of the battery compartment. I can't say enough good things about the Victron merchandise I've acquired thus far. All of the components are of excellent quality and are simple to set up and use. This brand is one that I would recommend for off-grid power setups.

The app could be better, but it's a good start
4/5

Installing it was a breeze. Accurate. Excellent craftsmanship. The app appears to be great, but it shuts off so quickly that if you do anything else, you'll have to re-enter the mode and re-activate the app to track the readings, which means you'll lose all of your recorded data, so it's only good for a quick snapshot of your batteries, not a long-term view. This could be easily fixed with a software update, but who knows if they will bother to do so.
