I had to replace every single hot water hose on my BMW, and I needed a good set of picks to make the job go faster. I only used one or two of these at most. Some of them are simply enormous and would be useless to me. The only drawback was that none of them were small enough to pull some of the quick connect pins. I ended up using a small screwdriver to complete the task. If you want a good pair of heavy-duty boots, look no further. This will undoubtedly work as duty hose picks. I simply do not believe that many people will require such a set. I had to replace eight hoses, but I could have done it with just one of these picks.
br>br>As an unintended consequence, they also do a fantastic job of loosening stubborn radiator hoses and are MUCH stronger than other picks of this type I've used. I used the longest hook in the kit to stab through the side of a stubborn radiator hose and yanked it out of the engine compartment where there was enough clearance to work it out. The hook showed no signs of deformation and didn't seem to mind the abuse. br>br>The set also comes with a good variety of sizes and shapes. I can use them on things as small as vacuum lines and as large as your wildest dreams, and I doubt I'll ever use my much smaller and less durable picks again. Maybe only for small o-types. rings.
Snap on is the same thing. Snap-on was the only company that produced these for a long time. I have both a snap on and a lisle, and they are identical with the exception of the handle. Snap on costs a quarter of what Lisle does. The best hose cutters ever, a must-have for any mechanic, whether a do-it-yourselfer or a pro.
I've already used them to separate some stuck hoses and to remove a stuck cotter pin in a ball joint that was in an awkward location. My old pin puller broke when that cotter pin bent, but this hose remover pulled it out without bending at all. Because these have very sharp points, avoid getting between the hose and the fitting. You should not put your fingers between the rubber layers of the hose, as this could damage it.
As a result, I decided to try them. They are, in fact, effective. I'm kicking myself for debating whether or not to buy them for so long. They were able to complete an otherwise impossible heater core replacement on a 2001 Ford Taurus. (On the other hand, if I ever meet the Ford engineer who designed the heater core assembly for the Ford Taurus, I'm going to punch them in the face. ).
My inability to see dimensions has gotten the best of me yet again. In this case, it isn't a bad thing. Leverage and pulling power are provided by the larger sizes. When I first opened the box, I was a little surprised to see that these aren't your typical screwdrivers; I've already had to use one to remove a stubborn radiator hose. I was pleased because it performed as expected. Attempting to remove coolant hoses has always been one of my pet peeves. When you're removing a hose from a fitting with a pair of large Knipex pliers, it can be a little dangerous. especially if it's a plastic fitting.
Love the set except for the fact that I paid a little more for this set because of the Lisle brand, but I was disappointed to find that the picks have no brand markings at all, so I could have paid $8 less for the other exact same picks that are being sold that look exactly and most likely the same. I'm not sure if the warranty makes a difference. Is there anyone who could help me out? Thanks.
When it comes to removing and installing radiator hoses, they are exceptional. If you work on cars, you'll want to have these in your toolbox. It's very sturdy, has a nice handle, and is reasonably priced.
