Questions & Answers

Can you use it with Hondas from the 1980s and 1990s?

Any flywheel with teeth will be able to use it

I'm trying to prevent the flywheel on a Briggs and Stratton 25 HP engine from turning What are the chances of this tool working? It won't work with the flathead tool from the factory. ?

My sincere thanks go to your response. Under the flywheel is where I'll change the armature of the motor. It was a great surprise to find out that Briggs Tool #19321, which I have, wouldn't work regardless of the instructions in the factory manual. By using an air impact wrench and an old proto puller, I was able to remove the flywheel. A torque of 150 ft. must be applied to the retaining nut when reinstalling the flywheel. About 3 pounds. If I can't stop the flywheel from turning, I can't accomplish that goal. Please accept my thanks once again

What is the manufacturing location for this tool?

As far as I can see, the package does not mention the country of manufacture. It is a very solid piece, which is why I bought it, and not a cheap one. Based on a review of Lisle's website, I A set of more than 400 specialty automotive tools is now available from the expanded facility at the original factory built in Iowa in 1903. Most of these hand tools are fabricated at the Clarinda, Iowa location.

Is this tool reliable when it comes to eliminating "slippage" or "not engaging teeth fully?" ?

In my case, it worked absolutely fine to remove the flywheel from a 75hp Mercury outboard motor. I didn't experience any slippage and I was able to remove the 15/16' lock nut with no hassle. A 100 ft/lb torque must be applied to the flywheel nut when it is reinstalled. As a result, we were able to accomplish this with the tool. The bottom line is. There was no regrets with this purchase

Standing in the torque plane is a bad idea
4/5

The flywheel tool is a great model, with a sturdy build and an adjustable size for a variety of flywheels. I learned this the hard way when I had to apply some extra grunt, the tip slipped, and that weight came crashing down on me like a particularly angry metal viper. It is spring loaded, but stand opposite the engine side or to the side when applying force. After recovery, I was away from work for about two days.

Slips are not permitted A quick and easy way to work
5/5

My 2002 Mazda B-type is in good condition (Ford Ranger 3000). One of the slave cylinders on the clutch leaked fluid. In addition to replacing the trans, I had to replace the clutch and the flywheel while I had the drivetrain out. It was necessary to hold the flywheel up so that both the flywheel bolts and clutch pressure plate bolts could be loosened and torqued. Furthermore, I decided to replace the cover for the timing chain By pulling the harmonic balancer, this was accomplished. I had full access to the flywheel since the trans was out. As a result, I just plugged in the Flywheel Turner and had the handle rest on the truck's frame (to keep it from moving around). I was very pleased with the results. Several other flywheel turners have been reviewed and they have been mentioned as slipping. I was never able to slip on this one at all, even after rechecking Took care of the hamonic balancer bolt by torqueing it to 107 ft-lbs. About 3 pounds. In fact, I was not touching the flywheel turner at all The flywheel just grabbed as soon as it started moving. It is the Lisle tools I love. It is evident that the tool is well made by looking at it. It is something I always buy if I have the choice, and I haven't been Their production is always of high quality and their operation is always satisfactory!.

A number of different brands and versions of the flywheel turner are available
5/5

It is important to recognize that there are a few different brands or versions of Flywheel Turners that all do the same thing, Based on my review of most of the offerings, I found this particular one to be the most robust. My initial assumption turned out to be true after receiving it. I was impressed by how well the tool was built, and how well it performed its function. The flywheel was held stationary as the balancer bolt was torqued with the vise. I would recommend this if you need it. Everything worked fine and should last a long time. Highly recommended!.

The flywheel was turned while the clutch and pressure plate were being worked on
5/5

With a manual transmission, it was used on a 1961 Chevrolet 283 engine. It was necessary to pull the transmission to identify and fix the It was very useful to rotate the flywheel so that I could remove the assembly, check it, clean it, then reinstall and torque it. That is a lot easier than using a very large screwdriver, and a lot faster as well. I had a hard time getting it to bite the first time.

The reason I bought this tool was because it is similar to something that I used to work with when I was working on transmissions back in the 1980's
5/5

Lisle is a brand that I have always known, so really it was a no brainer purchase for me. A billet aftermarket timing pointer I'm using gives me accurate TDC measurements. I just built a high compression big block Chevy and I'm trying to verify TDC. Using this tool is just as good as any other I have even used before I didn't break it during use so that's good As a result, I'd recommend this tool if you want to turn an engine in a As a word of caution, use the right tool thoroughly to ensure that the teeth are engaged with the tool otherwise you might skin some knuckles. If you are looking to rotate a large displacement/high compression engine, do not forget to remove the spark plugs. I have updated When this tool was loaned to someone, it was lost by the two of us. I had to buy it again soon afterward after I lost the first purchased tool. It's the first time I'm borrowing one, and the first one for a friend.

One of the best tools I've ever used
5/5

During flexplate testing, I used it to hold the flexplate. One of the best tools I've ever used. During the installation of a crankshaft bolt while the engine was in the car, I used it to hold a flexplate in place while I tightened the bolt. I propped the car up on a jackstand and placed this tool on the flexplate with the handle facing the concrete, braced the tool against the garage floor and torqued the crankshaft bolt to 165 FT LBS without a scratch. With this, you will not need to try and wedge things into flexplate holes. If you do heavy engine work, it is an absolute necessity.

Does not work with smaller flywheels
3/5

This tool has a curvature built in. You can adjust it, but if the flywheel is smaller than the curve on the lever, you will be unable to engage both tangs, since the flywheel will not engage with the lever. When I tried to apply this tool to a UTV/Motorcycle flywheel that was only 6" wide, I found that this could not be done. The common flywheel size in automobiles is much larger than 6", so this won't be a problem for most consumers.

The flywheel holder and the flywheel holder
5/5

It did the job as expected and was a great product! This tool was used to elevate a flywheel from an outboard motor on my pontoon powered by a 70 hp Evinrude motor. Without a holder to hold the flywheel in place, it would be nearly impossible to remove the locknut over the flywheel. During and after the repairs, the holder also held the flywheel until the nut could be reinstalled, and it was torqued to the proper size. Despite being a lot bigger than it looks, this tool is very well built, and made a difficult job much We received the product very quickly, it was well packaged, and came at a very reasonable price. If you're looking for a flywheel holder, this one is the one for you. It was yet another case of Amazon's service winning out. *By the way, this tool is actually included in the Evinrude Factory Repair Manual for my engine. It isn't named, but the picture shows it pretty It is always easier to do a job with the right tool!.
