When removing the harmonic balancer on the 6, it locks the flywheel into place. Allison automatic transmissions and 6L Duramax engines

Instead of removing the starter to replace the water pump, the flywheel is locked at the transmission, saving time.

Remove the metal spring-loaded inspection plate from the bottom of the transmission on 2500 and 3500 pickups.

For gm 5, this is a project. 3 gen lV?

For my 2004 6, it worked perfectly. There are six duramax in total.

Will this flywheel fit the GY6 50cc?

It worked perfectly on a 2002 Chevy Duramax.

Is this something that could be done with a 1600cc VW engine?

I'm not sure because it sort of wedges itself in the bell housing, but if you have a geared flywheel and a slot for it to slide into, I'm sure it would work. It appears that the starter has geared flywheels.

Is this tool compatible with an ls-based engine?

It was a breeze to remove the harmonic balancer and replace the water pump on my 2001 Duramax; all I had to do was pass it through the inspection port in the bell housing and I was good to go. Simply keep it in place until you've tightened it. Simply write it on the steering wheel so you don't forget it; otherwise, it could be disastrous.

If you're thinking about replacing your duramax water pump, make sure to include this in your tool list. It's reusable, and setting it up in the inspection plate area only takes a few minutes. Before attempting to break that harmonic balancer nut loose and retorquing that bolt back to 278ft lbs, make sure it's installed all the way to the shoulder. Also, remember to take it out before starting your truck.

Remember to take this tool away or your starter will be killed. We were tired, so we forgot. It's a mighty weapon! Make a mental note not to start the truck if you're going to be working on it for a long time.
