It comes with a metal extension tube that comes in handy when working with deep recess spark plug openings. The other kits, on the other hand, don't have this feature. Good written information is provided with the kit, as well as support information. Compression testing and locating blown head gaskets are both possible with this tool.
Shipping was quick, and the instructions were simple to follow.
Everything went according to plan.
This low-cost, high-quality compression test kit has exceeded my expectations. The gauge has a 63-inch diameter, a rubber cover, and quick connects that are comparable to those found on more expensive models. There's only one flexible hose, but it's all I needed to check my Subaru's compression. br>br>Because my engine's pistons are horizontally opposed, the spark plugs are located on the sides and are deeply recessed. Because the end of the flexible tubing is 14x1, I didn't need an adapter to reach the threads. My old engine, which had 200k miles on it, had a compression of 145-150 psi. I was expecting 150 psi per cylinder with only a few psi difference. According to the owner's manual, variances of less than 20 psi are usually a good sign, and the actual number doesn't matter as much as long as it's within the specified compression range for your engine. br>br>I'm not a professional mechanic, and I don't need to use a compression tester on a regular basis. This is an excellent tool for home use, and it assisted me in quickly ruling out compression issues in my engine during troubleshooting. I was worried that the gauge wouldn't be accurate, but the results of my test were satisfactory, and the gauge was able to maintain pressure until I released it. br>br>An excellent instruction manual is included, and anyone who follows the instructions can perform a compression test. I had to disconnect my cam sensor, but other than that, I didn't do anything except warm up the engine, and I had no problems after I reconnected the coil packs and fired it up. I have no complaints about the product, but I wouldn't use it in a shop where compression testing is done on a regular basis. Several other attachments are included to work with most thread sizes, and there are two quick push in rubber adapters that you hold in place while cranking the engine; I didn't test those because I couldn't fit them in (engine is too close to the frame), but they should work fine for inline 4 and 6 cylinder engines. I prefer the thread in connector, but if the size you need isn't in the kit, the push in connectors should work fine for various small engines. Another feature that won't work with my engine configuration is a metal extension rod for very deep cylinders, but I like that there are several options for different engine types.
I first tried it on a lawnmower that had just come out of winter storage and it worked fine, so I decided to try it out on a brand new race engine that I had on a stand in my garage just for fun. It's already been wet-tested for compression, and I have the factory's values from their verification done just before shipping it to me. This tester read within a small margin of error from the previous test, and it did so across all 12 cylinders. br>In most situations where compression is measured, super-compression is the best option. The point isn't to get precise readings. Variation between cylinders is what you're looking for. Even on a single-person basis, You want a pressure range that is acceptable for cylinder engines. It is not necessary to have a supercomputer. For that, there are more expensive accurate testers, but this one appears to be quite accurate for the price, so I'd recommend it.
I appreciate how large the gauge is, as it allows me to see it easily. It's protected by a nice rubber shell because it'll be dropped and shaken around a lot. br>br>I appreciate the variety of spark plug hole adapters available, as well as the fact that they all include an o-ring. For a good seal, use the ring. br>br>Everything threads together nicely, and the rubber-tipped probe works great on a stripped spark plug hole or for quick checks when I don't want to take the time to thread on an adapter. br>br>It's straightforward, precise, and effective. br>br>Overall, a fantastic kit. br>br>Strongly suggested. br>br>.
I was pleasantly surprised by the product's design, which is solid and well-made throughout, including the case. Adapters and extensions are included in the package. This is what I use to compare cylinder compression.
