Is it possible to use this unit with a 6 volt system as well as a 12 volt system, and does it have a switch for either 6 volts ?

This is a similar issue to what I investigated. There are a couple of 6 volt cars in my collection from the 40s and 50s I use a 12 volt battery to power my timing light, since it was built in the 1950s. I have used it quite a bit and it works well by picking up the signal well. However, there is no switch for 6 volts vs 12 volts, and due to the electronics in the unit, I have not tried running the timing light from 6 volts. We wish you good luck and hope to see the older machines running.

I would appreciate it if you could explain Do you have a 10 percent Also, can I use a 65k distributor and solid lead wires (stainless steel wires in this case) with this light?

There is no difference in the 1/10 advance, it simply offers a smaller adjustment range. If you advance by just a few points, you will be able to advance an entire degree. The following is true as of 1 degree In , 2. The third and fourth There are also nine and one. There has been no advancement in temperature. As an example, let's say you don't know what the advance option is for your car, which calls for the #1 spark to fire when the piston has 15 degrees of upward travel left before reaching its maximum compression capacity. The timing light should be left on zero advance and the adjustment would be made. If the mark is accurate, you can check it by increasing the advance up to five increments until it is Basically, if there is a 'ruler' type of thing next to the crank that has a series of degrees with corresponding numbers, this will work. The advance feature is necessary for some vehicles just to set the timing, by figuring out where it is at the present moment. If you are picking up the signal, you should be fine. My car (300zx) has two packs and it didn't want to pick up the signal going to the pack, so I purchased a spark plug lead extension to route from the coil to the

Timer lights aren't as good as they used to be
3/5

Two times. I work on boats, so I still need a timing light and tachometer and the number of times has decreased somewhat. We tried 3 different brands and all of them failed after about three or four uses. told, they were probably made by the same manufacturer but It has been 30 years since I bought my Snap-on In addition to purchasing a Stevens digital when a tachometer is needed, I also bought a dial type when a tachometer is not needed. With OTC's misuse of this tool, they really put a black mark on their name. Good tools of any type are extraordinarily hard to come by these days at any price.

It has been one and a half years since it was made
3/5

One and a half years after purchasing it and barely using it 8 times, the strobe stopped working today and I could smell a hot circuit odor coming from it. The item is now junk, so it costs much more to use it. Obviously, you timed a motor, so now you have to go to the store and buy one or rent one or wait for a replacement one to arrive I find this very inconvenient when it occurs.

It hasn't even been used occasionally for four months and it already broke
3/5

My light has only been with me for less than four months, and it already broke. There is a problem with the wire, so I am unable to get a good connection, so the light is not useful. It feels so frustrating to have to deal with this. Most of the stuff at OTC is barely able to take occasional use, even though it's supposed to be a professional line.

A timing light for the OTC system
5/5

Plastic case and effective operation make this timing light a great buy. Timing advance can be adjusted, and a tachometer is included. It is virtually identical except for its color and its nose boot made of plastic. My neighbor has a Craftsman timing light (model 14066). Though I am unsure if the internals are the same, this configuration appears to be It costs right around $100 to purchase the Craftsman light. Their accuracy is excellent to each other and they both work well together.

Despite being excellent, the housing is very light duty
5/5

Nice flexible leads as well. This is a good product, but it has very light housing and nice flexible leads. However, I can say that it is more or less similar to the ACTRON model in terms of construction. There is OTC written in bold letters on it! I can't believe I like it.

You should not buy any more

The quality of the video has worsened. There was only a two-month probationary period on this one. Other than that I purchased, all my other ones lasted at least three.

It was a great movie
3/5

I found that it was packed with all the features I was looking for. It has been less than 6 months since I bought this light, but when I first started using it, I thought it was wonderful. Using the timing light was very easy and it had all the features I had in mind for a light. As I was adjusting the timing on a Chevy 350 yesterday, the timing came out a little off. When the unit reached pin 8, the digital display locked up, and extremely expensive smoke began to billow from it. light was hooked up the same way I've been using it for months, but somewhere along the line, something went wrong. There is nothing left of it. I don't think it's worth it!.

I like this better than most
5/5

The Xenon timing lights have been my main light source for almost thirty years, and I own four different types. Despite the fact that the OTC3367 is not perfect (none are), it is still one of the best screens all around, regardless of price! It is much brighter than the Innova 5568, for example. This company makes a very good range of tools that are cost-effective and very practical. I'm sure you won't be disappointed with this. It can be easy to get swayed by the advertised features on timing lights, which may not be as important as they seem. In general, simpler lights work better than more glamorous models, because they can often be found with simple features as well. The fact that Snap On is a big brand does not necessarily mean that it will work better! In comparison to a Snap On or MSD, this OTC may cost more than most lights on Amazon, but it offers good value. Almost all timing lights are made in China, so you don't have to worry about the quality of the build they're hardly like spanners. This rebadged Innova light is sold by BluePoint for much higher prices. However, this OTC is a lot brighter and easier to use, as well as significantly cheaper. In terms of safety, good timing lights are ones that work effectively in practice. Technically, however, lights do not come with real "specs. ". In some cases, it is hard to know before purchasing a light, about the optics such as the beam shape or brightness, or the display such as how easy it will be to view or read, or if the pickup will actually function on most vehicles over long periods of time It is not a bad idea to also buy a hard storage case and a set of sensible leads. My point is, I don't want to argue with the earlier reviewer who said all of his friends own one, and all of them seem to be unhappy with theirs, but it's hard to interpret his review as either a bad vote from all of them or a valid opinion. It is also over three years since he posted his review, so I cannot rule out the possibility that OTC has since fixed the problem he speaks of. There is no doubt that these lights receive occasional adjustments since they are made with mass produced electronics and plastic. In relation to. There is a sense of length and justice about the leads on my 3367. They have good alligator clips, but not great alligator clips, and an inductive pickup that is well sprung. As a result there's no green coil wire to worry about or to get in the way (Dwell is no longer required due to breakers- There are fewer ignition systems), and the light has a very positive cable connector (often To my mind, the metal spring around the cable connector is not so much a strain relief as it just seems to be there for aesthetic purposes. As such, I recommend gripping the connector body itself rather than the cable or the spring when removing the leads. Also, lights should never be suspended by their leads. This bit of advice is pretty basic. If things are used the way they were intended to be used, they usually produce better results for longer periods of time. In contrast to other lights, which must have their leads removed in order to fit into a case, the OTC light goes into the case easily and has plenty of room thanks to the includes leads good hinges and catches, rather than just cheap bendy The light is extremely bright when it is in operation. The light of day is no longer a concern and the battle of chalk versus cheese is superior to any other The light comes from a powerful source. Lights with square beams cover a larger area, and the beam is more rectangular than those with round beams. It is difficult to describe the 'torch' function, but it is actually quite useful when you use it. As a result, this gun does not have a trigger. Instead, the controls are thumb operated. In some units, the timing light seems to flash while the display is reading advance, and in others, it appears to be reading tach. In this way, you never have to worry about advance being dialled in by accident. Despite the flashing light, the torch function can still be used to get a SAFER view of This is the blade of the fan). There is a kind of buzzing sound (or very fast flashing) from the zenon tube, and I now like this. The red LED display is better than a backlit LCD multifunction You can clearly see the tach readouts, and the Tach readouts are more stable than the high resolution readouts which constantly jump around, for instance. Rather than 719, 724, 721, we'll settle for steady 720 revolutions per minute. In this case, readouts like voltage and dwell, though not essential, are better left out. They can be obtained with another tool if needed. Innova lights usually have bent joints in the body which are soggy and their head is not more compact just because they look flat shaped! The simple gun-shaped lights look better than the indistinct bends in half in their bodies! Additionally, the user can select two or four strokes with digital braking for a zero-speed response. The degrees are measured in 1 degree increments (although 10ths of a degree is overkill) and of course there is the 'torch' (which sounds funny but is very effective). It covers a wide range of revs, and, importantly, it doesn't get confused or behave erratically when read and written during bursts (skip circuitry Digital advance lights do not require the presence of an ignition timing scale near or on the crank pulley (harmonic balancer) in order to properly set timing. The kind of engine you have, whether it is an old Volkswagen beetle or an old American V8 or a Japanese engine, doesn't matter, as long as you are able to monitor the actual spark advance or set the ignition timing at idle (most common). Even the latest cars don't necessarily use timing lights these days (none of the four spark advance sensors, the crank position sensor, the ECU, or the distributor set This light can also be used on a 2 stroke lawnmower or 6 volt vehicle, either negatively or positively grounded, just by using a small SLA battery outside the light. It does not matter what the diameter of the spark plug lead is, but it should be the relatively modern type used for the No. 1 spark plug. These days the silicone type is preferred over solid conductors like you might find on a car from the old days or a drag race car. When speaking to a group of people With spark ignitions (which are not very common) you can only use a basic timing light with no digital advance or dial back controls. I did receive a light with what looked like a chrome finish, which probably looked better, but has no real impact on it. It performs well for the majority of my jobs and I am satisfied with its performance. Check out other backlit multifunction displays if you want extra blinky displays, but be aware that there are other more important considerations than a blue backlight or a red rubber boot. As opposed to Actron and Innova, which offer 12 months of warranty, OTC offers three years, an indicator that the product is reliable. (Amazon may not necessarily honor the warranty, but a triple warranty is usually a good sign without exception). This book is highly recommended.
