Questions & Answers

Is the alternator being tested with this?

Indirectly, it tests the alternator; however, it is not a completely foolproof system for determining this. You must know what to do if you are unsure whether the problem is with your alternator or your battery; this is something I learned from my father. br>br>If it was just recently charged (as in you removed it from your battery tender charging system) and put into the car, or if you just turned off the engine a minute ago, your battery should read around 12-volts. 13V br>br>However, if your engine is running and cycling, it should read around 14V or very close to 14V, indicating that your alternator is still in good working order.br>br>As for the battery, if your car has been off for about an hour or two and you test it without loud noise and it falls below 6-volts, your battery is still in good working order. If your battery has a voltage of less than 7 volts, it is most likely defective and must be replaced.

What features does this unit have? I saw a similar unit at HF, but it has aluminum wires instead of copper; what features does this unit have?

I looked at the unit and it seems to have wires that are not 100% copper and it seems to have copper-colored wires and it seems to have copper-colored wires that are% Aluminum wires that have been clad Meaning it's mostly aluminum wire with a thin copper coating on the outside; the wire has an aluminum color at the end, and I was able to scratch off the copper coating on a wire strand.

Will this work with solar-related deep-cycle batteries? Those aren't high-cranking-amp batteries, I'm guessing. ?

It simply applies a load across the battery being tested and measures voltage, so it can be used to compare or analyze any 6 or 12 volt lead acid battery. Although there is no marking for deep cycle applications on the "good and bad" scale, I use mine to match and trend some large 1500 short circuit amp batteries. I have a hand-held digital voltmeter connected in parallel with this instrument, so I rarely use the scale; it's just a convenient, inexpensive switched load.

I'm looking for a way to determine whether or not there are any parasitical draws. Is there a way to test for battery draws when the car isn't running and the key isn't in the ignition?

A common multimeter (MM) set up to measure AMPS draining from the battery while the car is turned off is the best way to detect that problem. br>1) unplug the battery's positive cable; br>2) Turn on the MM and set it to measure DC AMPS (if it isn't already set to that). Set it to the 2-range type in the ranging type. br>3) connect the MM IN SERIES between the () battery post and the () cable terminal br>Voila, your parasitic draw is now visible on the meter display It's perfectly normal to have a minor draw. Anything that is greater than zero. If you see 02 amps or less, you've got a problem that needs to be fixed.

It's great for do-it-yourselfers, but it's useless for the dead
5/5

It helped me locate some working and failing batteries among my equipment and vehicles. br>br>This is a bit of a personal preference, but I found it to be heavier and more durable than I expected for the price. I'm overjoyed for only $20. When you're done with it, carefully store it in the box it came in in your tool chest for the next time, and it should look and function similarly when your survivors go through your belongings. My children are unlikely to understand what it does, but that isn't my problem. In about 30-45 days, I expect someone to pay $5 for it. A yard sale in a dead man's driveway has been going on for 40 years. (mine)br>br>Instead of throwing money away by replacing still good batteries at a fixed interval as I used to, I can now actually tell when they are going bad. It has already paid for itself, and it will continue to pay off in the future. I regret not getting one sooner.

(update on a replacement) Not very accurate
3/5

On a 12-inch screen, I performed two tests. a car battery with a voltage of 12 volts. One test was conducted without the use of any load, while the other was conducted with the use of a load. Both tests included the use of a digital volt meter. The digital volt meter shows the battery at 12 volts when no load is connected. 5 volts, as well as the BT- The result of the 100th test is 12. 2 v. The digital volt meter reads 11 when the circuit is loaded. 4 volts, as well as the BT- The result of the 100th test is ten. 8 v. The 0. The difference of 6 volts is significant because a good battery can be mistaken for weak or dead, resulting in the premature replacement of a usable battery. br>br>Recent changes: br>br> I gave the device back to you. I saw a 70% off sale a coupon a coupon a coupon coupon coupon coupon coupon coupon coupon coupon coupon coupon coupon I made the decision to try it again. This is the first time that the BT-series has been used in this way. 100 is almost identical to the readings on my digital meter. I'm guessing the BT-100 is a good example of this. It's possible that maintaining 100 percent quality control will be a challenge. This is typical of something good that is manufactured in China.

This is the first time I've bought a battery load tester
4/5

This is the first battery load tester I've bought, and I read through all of the other reviews before making my decision. There are vent holes, as mentioned by other reviewers, because the housing gets hot and smoke comes out if the load is turned on for the full 10 seconds. Hold the switch on for no more than 10 seconds, as the high heat may melt the plastic power switch or other plastic components. The device is well-designed, with a spring-return toggle switch to ensure that it does not become accidentally switched on and cause catastrophic failure. br>br>The load is a thick gauge resistive wire that runs in a zig-zag pattern. If you look inside through the vent holes, you'll notice a zigzag pattern. This is due to the fact that obtaining the required level of resistance necessitates a length of material. The vent holes are there to allow smoke from the initial burn-in to escape. in order for the unit to flee. The vents also provide a method for heat concentrated within the load tester to be drawn away by convection, which is the case for almost anything involving extremely hot components being used for the first time. You will understand when you use it for the first time. br>br>I will be using this device to check an automotive 12V battery, as I recently had a dead battery in one of my vehicles and wished I had one of these battery testers sooner. br>br>I will be using this device to check an automotive 12V battery, as I recently had a dead battery in one of my vehicles and wished I had one of these battery testers earlier.

Yes, this is a must-have item for any shade tree mechanic
5/5

When you're unsure about a battery's strength, this is a handy tool to have. Schumacher is a man of integrity. However, read the instructions carefully because the first time I used it, I thought the components were on fire. Don't be alarmed; it'll smell like it's been overheated. That's completely normal, as the tester clearly states on the front!.

Everyone should have at least one, if not two of these
5/5

Now is the time to purchase it. I had to use this battery tester the week after I got it, which was embarrassing. My car broke down, and I had no choice but to spend some of my meager unearned income on taxi fares, which pleased me as much as an IRS audit. After charging up my battery again, I tested it with this machine, which confirmed that my battery was weak (maybe I should have charged it up a little longer), but otherwise OK, and that my car's own charging system was within limits, though a little on the high side. It has earned back its purchase price because it saved me the cost of a new battery. From now on, I vow to check under the hood maybe once a month rather than once a year. My bruised hands are proof that there isn't enough space beneath there. And, despite the fact that my oil was changed only a few weeks ago, the oil change facility failed to check the battery as promised, as two of the battery cells were dry. So, here's my recommendation: buy it and put it to good use. As soon as possible.

I took the battery to Advance Auto, which confirmed that it was defective
5/5

If you have, this is an excellent tool to keep on hand. As stated, the task was completed. I used a voltmeter to test the first battery, and it passed. The BT100 test revealed that the cell was weak or shorted. I took the battery to Advance Auto, which confirmed that it was defective. If you have a lot of marine life on your property, this is an excellent tool to have on hand. battery for a car.

Excellent Battery Tester (Read the Instructions)
5/5

This product did exactly what it said it would do. WARNING! Check out the instructions! It will produce minor smoke during the first few uses, which is completely normal. Do not be concerned, as I was. This is the most value for your money! You can now buy fancy digital battery testers, but this one works perfectly for all of my marine batteries and monitoring them for abnormal activity. br>br>Overall, I would strongly suggest this product.

I really like this Tester
5/5

This device has saved my bacon on a couple of occasions in the last month, for both my car and motorcycle. For around $20, this was easy to use and accurate, and it paid for itself in less than 10 minutes. It's critical to figure out whether the problem is with the battery or the charging system when there's a charging issue. This is a truncated version of the full-length version. version of what's used for the free Auto Zone load tester service, but you'll have to get your car and battery there and back to test them. The device is small and portable. Although the cables and clamps are sturdy, the cable is short ( The "carbon load" looks a lot like nichrome wire, but it should last a long time if the tester is only used once in a while. As stated in the instructions, the unit gets extremely hot during load testing. During use, I keep the tester on a small board, and it cools down quickly. I can't speak for other users, but I have a couple of Schumacher chargers, and they make excellent products for the price.
