This is primarily used to test 12 volt AGM batteries. This worked fine for the majority of batteries, including car batteries, but there was one snag. When I put on a slightly overcharged 12v battery (charged to 13), it is slightly overcharged. It would display 3 volts - 24 volts and becomes stuck on it; I wouldn't test any others after that. So, thinking I had a bad one, I ordered another one. The new one behaved in the same manner as the previous one. After a few days, the tester was functional again, but I was hesitant to test any battery with a capacity greater than 13. 3v. Because it's supposed to test the charging system, it should be capable of handling more than 14 volts. I'm not sure if I got two defective units, but the new one can be returned. I won't be able to return the first one because it has been three months, but I will most likely be able to test the majority of the batteries. It's just a matter of checking the voltage with a voltmeter to make sure it's not over 13 volts, as this isn't how it's supposed to work. Before using the tester, make sure the battery is in good working order. LOL!.

The size and simplicity of use were appealing to me. The only thing I think would improve it, at least in terms of technicality, is if some of the meter acronyms were explained.
