Product Description

A unique design that I have developed allows the gauge to be used straight on or at a 90 degree angle to the rotor, and its tips have been offset so that it can be used without removing the wheel or the caliper assembly in many applications.
The brake lining gauges are used to determine the thickness of brake linings
The material is durable, flexible, and wear-resistant
Depending on whether you are changing brake pads metrically or SAE, the gauges are color coded

Questions & Answers

Can you tell me if these are plastic or not? Is it durable?

Plastic of a very high quality. You can abuse brake clean pockets as well as use them every day. They tuck under the wheels behind the pads and give you an accurate reading without removing them

What does that tool do for you? What are your expectations of the teeth of this tool when used between the rotor and back plate of the pad?

Yes, the ends (tips) are placed on the outside of the pad, between the backing plate and the brake

In what units are these measurements given?

Not at all! To measure the depth of tire tread, 32nd is often used. The brake pad life test tool below is designed for measuring brake pad life. It works best for assessing how long a pad has lasted at the inner pad and at the top or bottom of the pad. The middle portion of the pads may be a challenge to measure through the spoke of the wheel due to the curve at the back. The shop I work at offers express service for which I use this tool and the GearWrench 3962 brake lining thickness gauge.

Is it possible to get this style in metal or only in plastic?

Using a flexible plastic for the foot, this style is comfortable. There are far fewer disadvantages to this version than to the metal straight model. Both kinds are available in my auto repair shop, but this one is my favorite.

This should be made out of metal! It always wears on me when I see cheap plastic
3/5

Let us have metal versions of these for the love of God. As far as I can tell, there are no similar brake lining gauge sets available for purchase on Amazon or elsewhere in metal rather than bought my first one in August of this year, and it has already been paid The corners are bending and snapping off, and the tips are no longer sharp. It's so useful that I had no choice but to buy another one by the year 2020 since this one is so versatile. My only concern is that I don't want to buy this every six Images depicting my old and new 81850s, along with a generic metal brake gauge set, are attached. (When I compare it to the new 81850), you'll see that the old 81850 has already outlived its useful life. There is also a generic metal brake gauge set that is probably more than 5 years old, and it looks no different than my new 81850 when compared to it. It's quite simple, make a metal version of this!.

I'm an Automotive Technician with 25 yrs of experience, and I use the product to measure brake lining thickness without having to remove wheels, depending on the My expectation was that the products would be made of metal rather than The reason I prefer metal is that it won't flex when it is measured in a tight space
3/5

While the flex of the plastic is too much, it It was time to remove the chain so that I could replace it with A 0 bolt with a self-locking nut will hold them all straight but also allow them to swing freely instead of them flopping all over the place just like a For something made out of just plastic, I do not think it's worth the price. It would not have been a great idea to buy it if I had realized it was plastic rather than metal.

Every mechanic should have this tool
5/5

Having the ability to measure brake pad thickness without having to take a wheel out was a great feature of this product. Due to its plastic (read that as flexibility), it can be snugly positioned in tight places. The metal versions are much more appealing than this one. The long tabs on the end of it allow the pad thickness to be measured horizontally as well as perpendicular The iGaging 100 works in combination with the iGaging 100 I no longer have to remove wheels in order to measure brake pads and rotors with the brake rotor gauge. Whenever I will be able to, I will give it six stars.

In the event you have never inspected brake pads before, these are okay to use, but are no replacement for visual examination
3/5

I think these are fine. I bought these for my son to check remaining brake pad life. It's hard to see the brake lining with them since they are difficult to find on most vehicles. I'd say there is a limited utility to them. The tool I have is not quite as useful to me as just watching for worn brake pads with my eyes, but it's nice to have one more assistant.

As a result, you save yourself a lot of time
4/5

You can check the lining thickness without having to remove the tires in many cases. A lot depends on how the brake calipers and the rim is designed. It may be possible to check the lining's thickness with an opening in the rim in some cases. A truck's rims are obviously going to need to be very wide in order for this to work. Additionally, you can look at the thickness of the lining internal to the vehicle by lifting it up. Naturally, this will be easier if the vehicle is already on Despite that, if you don't have to take the tires off, it could save you a few minutes. The only concern is the size of the gauges. They may last for five or ten years, but I'm not certain.

I am pleased to be surprised
5/5

As I said, I did not read the description as well as I should have, so when they arrived, they were made When I discovered that they were made out of plastic, I realized that they were more flexible and had a better feel for The software is quick and easy to use, and has saved me a lot of time when checking brakes. My experience with this product has been excellent.

It is very useful to have these on hand and very The one I bought was the most convenient to use out of the brake pad checkers that I purchased
5/5

Whenever these brakes are removed from wheels, I've never found a brake where this wasn't able to hook through the rim quickly or fall out from the front quickly. A magnet hook is attached to the side of my lift and this and a tread gauge are hung there.

This is a great feature
5/5

A set of gauges with this special ability could be used both vertically and horizontally was the only set available. Since the caliper design interfered with the horizontal gauges, the typical horizontal gauges could not be used on my front brakes. Having the tire removed did not allow me to determine the thickness of the outside pads. This set of gauges allowed me to measure the thickness of the outside entrance pads at several different locations quickly if they were arranged in the vertical position. It was a life saver to have gauges like these!.
