What is the magnet's tensile strength? Does it appear to be about to fall?

It isn't very strong. The meter will stay in place, but it will fall if I pull the leads too far. Fortunately, it didn't fall far, but the risk of this happening again and the meter breaking on the ground is too great. In addition, I found the magnet to be inconvenient because it kept sticking to things I didn't want it to. When I picked up the meter, the magnet became stuck, almost ripping the meter from my grip (weak hands). I removed the magnet.

I occasionally purchase low-cost test equipment, conduct a quick review, and then post the results to my w3afc. com's website. This is for the benefit of HAM Radio operators who are on a fixed income and want to repair their own equipment. In a few weeks, I'll post a complete review with photos. This review is aimed at the average homeowner or DIY enthusiast looking for a low-cost, high-quality product. a meter that is highlighted I put this meter up against a much more expensive Amprobe AM-2000 meter as a comparison. 570 PROS: br>br>

- The back of the magnet has two plastic-coated magnets that are extremely useful. I can stick it to the face of one of my vintage HAM radios and it will stay put while I'm testing.

Seriously, don't waste your time; I just got this meter today and it's set to 0, so touching the leads together should result in a reading of 0

0Ω. This meter does not do so, and it also does not stay on a value. I tried using the "relative" button, but when I touch the leads together, I still get erratic values that don't stay on a single value or show zero. There is no resistance. I'll be returning this meter, and I'm hoping that this review will save someone else from having to deal with this piece of garbage.

Well, obviously, at this low price, this is not a high-end meter, but with a wide range of functionality, a 6000 count display, and claimed TRMS, it's still interesting and very usable

It's quite large, and it has an odd blue hue to it. Backlight is dim, but the display is large and easy to read. Accuracy and update speed are surprisingly good, as is repeatability, but long-range reliability is still unknown. The magnet hanger is a good idea, but it would be more useful if it had a stronger magnet. After a thorough cleaning of the tips with fine steel wool and alcohol, the leads are surprisingly good. The meter's overall accuracy appears to be very good, and it has an acceptable, if not overly loud, but audible continuity tester, and it zeros out well when the leads are shorted. The 9v battery and two small ceramic appearing fuses are accessible after removing the battery cover on both ranges. The case screws do not have metal inserts, but this is a budget meter, so it is not an issue at this price. My biggest complaint is that, while I am glad it has a backlight, it has an odd appearance - It only stays on for a few seconds, and when you turn it on, the numbers have a strange slightly washed-out effect; don't get me wrong, the display is still readable; it's just not as vibrant and crisp as others - Someone else might not notice or care, and as a budget meter, it isn't a big deal. I'm not dissatisfied because I knew what to expect when I went in; the meter functions well and has a lot of features - However, you can get a Fluke 101 pocket meter for under $50 right now, and while it doesn't have as much functionality, it does have the reliable Fluke reliability that has been demonstrated in tests on YouTube - It all depends on the type of meter you're looking for - Overall, this meter is a good buy, but shop around for other options in this price range; there are some good deals to be found elsewhere. It's a fair question to wonder why I didn't purchase the Fluke 101. One reason is that this meter has a lot more features, and two, I already own a Fluke 17B, but the main reason was pure curiosity based on reviews. I saw good reviews and a large display with a lot of functionality for a reasonable price, and I'm a meter collector, so I bit - This is the type of meter you can throw in a toolbox or throw in the truck and be good to go for very little money. Just find a cheap carry bag to fit online and you're good to go. There isn't much to lose if someone "borrows" from you. a Fluke or other reasonably priced meter Even with the minor flaws I mentioned, it's a good buy and you couldn't do much worse for the money.
