I used a lot of penetrating oil and beat around the area until it was freed up. It was virtually impossible to remove, not even with considerable force, the emergency brake inside as it had rusted apart from the backing plate and the shoes were lodged inside it. The tool arrived within 2 minutes of opening the case, so I was able to remove my rotor/drum from the truck immediately. In the F350, there is both a rotor for the brake pads and an emergency brake drum. It's this combination that makes the rotor/drum large and heavy. In my view, it was totally worth the money, and a welcomed tool to help me prevent ever having to fight another one.
I think it is a good idea if you do. It is never pleasant to see an instrument stuck, but there is a tool to fix it if you need it. In the event that you have a hollow hub, as in the place where the tool would normally press against is a hole that the tool slides straight through, this tool will work as intended. Although it is provided with enough spacers and nuts, I was still able to pull the drum off when I assembled it differently. There are a few things to consider To get the job done, you need some big tools. To use this tool, you really need two 32mm wrenches. I used one from a previous repair, and a pair of channel locks for the counter grip, but you should have two 32mm wrenches on hand. Just get the wrenches if you are going to spend the money on this. Your headaches will be avoided down the road if you implement this now.
Although I replace many rotors, this one would not come off. It pinched my finger, but eventually pulled it right off,the rotor was in no rush, but this thing is heavy duty,I should have had one years ago, plus it does hubs, too!.
I was able to keep my sanity! We used the tool to pull the front rotors off of a 20-year-old F150 pickup truck. In the previous round, I had beaten therotors with By rotating a hammer a few inches between blows on both sides for hours, you can wear your hand out. I have tried two cans of rust paint and still had no success.
As this was my first time to use a drum removal tool, it made the process easy for me.
I had a wheel hub bearing fail on my 2004 Nissan frontier and it removed the hub with a seized bearing. It was a breeze!.
My truck's stuck brake drums were removed with no trouble with this method.
