The hook has a 1 3/8" internal diameter. It goes over a 1 inch pipe perfectly.
I'm not sure what kind of stainless steel these are; But they're incredibly durable; I've had mine for years and they're still rust-free.
Do you believe a professional would trust a Ford DC34 or a Dodge 536? To a Walmart coathanger, how about 01096 caliper pads, which weigh over 25 lbs? For years, we used bailing wire, and we still do on occasion, but these hooks are faster and flat-out better. It is more cost effective to rate faster.

These hangers are 100% not necessary to perform a brake or suspension job, but they save time and possibly protect calipers and such. You save a little time because you don't have to wrap the smallest bungee cord you can find around the caliper to get it out of the way. Yes, it's simple, but when you're working on something, every detail counts. Because bungee cords can break, damage can be avoided with these solid hangers. I also bought the stainless steel version because the powder coating on the other options doesn't seem to be very durable.
I'm not sure where these have been all my life; I've been using wire, coat hangers, zip ties, and nothing at all for years. Simply place the caliper on the control arm or detach a spring from the caliper. I didn't bump the caliper until the last time I did a brake job. It slammed into me between the eyes, splitting my brow open. Needless to say, when I saw these, I had to have them. It was money well spent.
Coat hangers, twine, and tywraps were never consistently satisfactory. As a result, I took the plunge and bought them. They're a little longer than most, and they're made of stainless steel. I chose the longer hanger so that I could hang from one of several coil spring coils with some flexibility. So far, they've performed admirably on my Avalon. Because the front calipers' rubber hose is shorter, I was able to hang it from the coil spring at just the right angle to keep it out of the way.
They're simply hooks, yes. They are, however, functional hooks. They are excellent at what they do. They're big and heavy, but they work well. There will be no more bailing wire. They make hanging calipers and saving break lines a breeze. Made in the United States of America, of course. That's a nice perk.
These are extremely durable and stay in shape. I primarily work on heavy-duty vehicles, and these are the best I've seen. The most important aspect is that they must remain as a hook, and these are the best at doing so. br>No goofy plastic caps to fall off, no paint or plastic coating to come off, no lightweight steel to straighten out; stainless steel 1/4" diameter will not rust. These are both straightforward and effective. br>Excellent! br> I would strongly suggest it.
I purchased these with the impression that they were quite costly for what they were. Drop a caliper that pulls out that bungee, on the other hand, and the price is suddenly not so bad. The coat hanger trick won't work for me because I mostly work on light trucks. I won't trust a 1 ton caliper to a piece of wire I can bend by hand, and I don't want to waste my time twisting and untwisting coat hanger wire to ensure that the caliper doesn't come loose and possibly pull out the brake line. br>br>So these work pretty well, and you can do limited work on the caliper like slide pins without risking some ad hock method failing, because these hangers are quite strong And I like the stainless steel because it doesn't rust or chip paint, and the biggest risk is losing them (I bought the unpainted stainless steel, not the orange ones). I'm torn on this because the orange ones are less likely to drive away by accident).
Last night, I worked on my Tacoma's front brakes for the first time with these. I regret not purchasing these earlier. It's a lot easier than using the coat hanger I was using before. The only thing I might do differently is have these painted orange (or another bright color). I have a can of Kubota orange that I plan to use to paint these. When they're needed, they'll be much easier to locate.
I've bought two sets so far and they're great. My only gripe is that they aren't quite long enough for me. And that bending one end out slightly would allow it to be used in more applications. They are, however, quite thick in diameter. Heavy truck/van calipers have been hung without flexing or causing problems.
