I purchased an appliance hand truck from Harbor Freight (a similar model is available at Lowes). All of the wheels were made of plastic and had pressed bearings. After a few uses, the hubs on both wheels cracked, rendering the hand truck useless. A replacement wheel was not available at Harbor Freight or Lowe's. This has a metal hub and bearings, which I found on Amazon. Well- constructed and dependable They have a score of zero. 5 in. The wheel was narrower than the OEM wheel, but this was solved with the installation of a bushing in-between the spokes. The entire installation process took less than ten minutes from start to finish. The hand truck is fully functional and outperforms the original in every way!.
When I was putting the wheel on the shaft, a typical "Made in China" bearing came out of it. Bearing tolerances are subject to poor quality control. br>After using a micrometer to measure the bearing's inside and outside diameters, I discovered that the outside diameter was just a hair too small for a tight pressed in fit in the wheel itself, and the inside diameter was less than the advertised 5/8".
Because of the press, one of the two bearings on one of the wheels was loose. The fit was too loose. Without a load on the hand truck, the wheel quickly becomes misaligned and wobbles. I'm going to experiment with stacking 5/8" washers, shaft collars, or slip-ons. On both sides of the wheel, pipe spacers are used to keep the bearing in place.
For my application, it was simple to install, solid, and sturdy.
ON THE SECOND DAY, ONE SPLIT OPENED, and the others wobbled. CRAP OUT OF CHINA.
Wheels with a lot of power You did an excellent job.
Not at all what I had anticipated!.
