Questions & Answers
This isn't the right equipment. For a Cherokee, you'll need the high pinion kit. I believe I purchased one from Rough Country on Amazon. Because the high pinion lacks a crush sleeve, special shims are required before final assembly to correct the pinion bearing drag.

But it's still enjoyable! I purchased this at a great sale price, but when the box arrived, it stated USA Standard Gear rather than Yukon. I contacted Yukon customer service, who informed me that the item was incorrectly listed as a Yukon set. The set is identical to Yukon, with the exception that Yukon has an extra crush sleeve x2 and Timkon bearings, whereas the USA Gear set has Koyo bearings. In a nutshell, this kit, which is still great and made for Yukon Dura-Flex, is as follows. Grip carriers or Eaton Posi units are recommended by Yukon customer service, but make sure your aftermarket carrier accepts these bearings first.
Master technician with GM certification: br>Koyo bearings are comparable to AcDelco factory bearings in terms of quality. These were installed on a 2000 suburban with 300k miles, and the previously noisy rear end became as quiet as a mouse after that. I would recommend using a GM crush sleeve instead of the one provided in the kit because the one provided in the kit is much stiffer and harder to crush, which could result in overtightening the pinion nut and excessive preload on the pinion bearings; however, the shim kit provided has very nice stackable shims as thin as. 005", which makes fine-tuning the carrier's backlash and preload a breeze.
Parts are in the wrong place. I dismantled my differential only to discover that this kit was incorrect. br>I own a 1999 Dodge Ram VAN 1500 pickup truck. I'm aware that the year 1999/2000 is a year of transition for the number nine. I wanted to make sure the application and part number were correct before ordering 25 axles, so I went to Yukon's website to double-check. I received it on time, but the bearings and races that were sent were too small. The pinion crush sleeve was significantly longer than mine. There was also no cover gasket (as shown in the photo). br>The components were vacuum packed and shipped on cardboard cards. On neither of the two cards I had, there were no numbers or descriptions. Who knows what was sent because there's no way to tell unless you open it and try to read the bearing and race numbers, which requires opening it. br>br>So I'm stuck until Monday to see if I can get a better deal on individual parts locally vs. ordering them online. a kit. Thank you so much, Yukon Gear! You can probably guess whether I'll order anything in the future with your name on it.
Everything went in fine when I used this to install a Grizzly locker; the shims are mostly zero. 007", and the thick shims are beveled to fit into the housing properly. Be aware that crushing down the crush sleeve requires a LOT of force, so be ready. The ring gear bolts appear to be more durable than stock, and they fit Ford 4 perfectly. 10 gears. The bearings are enormous. br>br> I'm serious. They're about 4 in number. The diameter of the circle is 125 inches.
According to Amazon, this kit is compatible with the Dana 44 axles found in the 1989 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. I had my axle, new gears, and this master kit delivered for installation. It came without a slinger washer for behind the pinion shaft, and both inner axle seals were the wrong size for the axle. Now I'm out more money because they had to purchase these items for the installation and I'm being charged for them. This is inexcusable! Either Amazon should remove this vehicle from the list of vehicles it fits, or USA Standard should stop claiming that the package includes everything needed to rebuild the axle.
This kit and its price are satisfactory to me. Koyo, a high-quality bearing manufacturer, provided the bearings and races. The carrier bearings were made in the United States, while the pinion bearings were made in Japan. I didn't use (need) the left-hand threaded ring gear bolts that came with the kit. It included several pinion shims as well as a set of carrier bearing sandwich shims. A differential cover gasket, crush sleeve, thread locker, and a 1-year limited warranty were also included. A quarter-inch pinion nut, a pinion seal, gear marking paint, and a brush are all required. There was even a small instruction booklet included, but it was fairly generic. It contained data on pinion prior to its release. The load specs provided were on the low side, according to what I found on the internet, so check the FSM for what GM has to say about the issue, if you can find one. Diluting the paint with one part paint to three parts gear oil worked well for me. Everything in the photo, plus the gasket, was included. Priority mail was used for shipping, and I received it three days after placing my order. It's a nice, high-quality kit that's shipped on a shrink-wrapped blister board to keep things from banging against each other during transit.
There are a lot of shims. I like the nut because it won't come off with a crush sleeve, and it won't come off with red loctite. I'd recommend getting a set that includes a set of the same pinion bearings without the other items so you can make a set of pinion set up bearings. That will make a huge difference in how your back end is set up. You can simply slide the shims in and out as needed without causing damage to the bearings.
It uses high-quality Koyo bearings made in Japan and the United States, so I'm not sure why it's so cheap. The kit was not packed in its original box, which is the only reason I can think of for its low price. The seller, on the other hand, included the original box end flap, which displayed the USA Standard Gear P/N and description. Score! br>br>I just noticed that the "YK" kit is nearly four times the price of this "ZK" kit, which is likely due to the use of Timken bearings. It doesn't make sense to me because Timkens can be manufactured outside of the United States, and I don't see how they could be significantly better than a US-made product. Alternatively, Japanese- KOYO is a Japanese word that means "I made it. " I've also read that KOYOs are used in a wide range of Japanese cars and trucks. Someone might be able to shed some light on the situation.
