This can be used on a street bug, right?

In essence, it fits either stock or custom Volkswagen frames and motors so I would say that yes, provided you have the factory transmission or swing axle and engine configuration, you can run this kit, but if you are currently using basic mounts, this kit will make it more secure.

Can you imagine how rough it would be if it were ?

This is a must have for any performance Volkswagen. It doesn't make all the difference in weight or ride quality but the sound/feel. Stock mounts are rubber and dampen all vibrations, therefore this is a must have for any performance Volkswagen.

In order to mount the forward strap do you need to drill through the horns of the frame?

It's typical for the horns to be immediately cut

Does this apply to a solid mounting of the trans (no rubber mounts)? Would you recommend rubber mounts or do you think I can use them?

A solid foundation. Mounts without rubber do not exist

It was only the main mounting bolts of the bracket that were missing. I was initially concerned that the old and new brackets on my buggy were bent, but after comparing the two, I realized that the larger holes were actually closer together by about a quarter After tweaking the bolts in enough to get the Elbo grease on, I adjusted it to fit with a big ratchet strap and a big ratchet. My old hardware worked well instead of the bolts which are rather cheesy. Rather than discarding the new junk bolts, I will use them to fix my lawnmower or make.

I agree! Solid! The motor and tranny will cause you to feel every vibration and bump

You will also feel power on the ground as soon as it is turned on. I have the extra mounting holes and lip built in to mount my skid plate and rear bumpers easily, making the buggy very responsive. I can also shift flawlessly and quickly with this shift linkage.

Having tried the energy suspension transmission mounts on my 68 swing axle and tearing the nose cone mount in a day, I thought it would be a good idea to try these. The difference is huge! It should shift better, handle better, and accelerate better. Vibrations are higher on this type of vehicle.
