Selected User Reviews For Pertronix D2010 Flame-Thrower TFI Module for Ford
Customers who left negative feedback almost certainly purchased the incorrect TFI module. Ford used two different TFI modules, ranging in age from 89 to 95 years old. Checking the TFI connecter is the only way to be sure which one you have. If you have a Red/Blue wire connected to pin 4, this module isn't for you. Pin 4 on the TFI connects directly to pin 4 on the EEC IV, making this a CCD (computer controlled dwell) module. The coil negative circuit also lacks an ignition suppression resistor. I called the manufacturer to double-check that this is a CCD camera. In my case, it was successful. TFI modules can be difficult to find, so make sure you get the correct one. All of the issues mentioned in the other reviews occur when the incorrect TFI is installed. The unit is in good working order.
For my 1988 Ford Ranger, I bought this product. The TFI module that came with the computer has stopped working. I've bought Pertronix products before and had good results. The Pertroix module, on the other hand, was broken when it arrived this time. While the unit was still under warranty, I returned it to Pertronix and received a replacement. I couldn't get the new unit to work properly, and I kept having problems with it. It was necessary to purchase an additional unit from NAPA at this point in order to get the vehicle running. In Pertronix's defense, I didn't bother attempting to warranty the second unit. I moved on after accepting the defeat. I didn't want to deal with the back-and-forth process of a product warranty via the mail system because of time constraints. As I previously stated, I have had good luck with this company and their products in the past; however, not this time. I gave the product two stars because of Pertronix's reasonable response time in dealing with the defective product's warranty; however, there would be no stars if the product were rated on functionality.
This module caused a rough idle and would "cut out" for no apparent reason (at times while idling, at other times while driving on the highway). A local "Ford God" mechanic was kind enough to assist me in troubleshooting this problem. He felt the TFI module cut out after one ride and suggested I replace it. After installing the ACCEL 35369 Ignition Control Module, the problem went away. br>br>As I installed the TFI relocation kit and moved the TFI to the fender, I'm not sure how well this unit will withstand the heat of being installed in the dizzy. A simple modification that prevents the TFI from overheating and failing. br>br>I found the accel part for $40 with free shipping on the internet! According to my research, the Accel 35369 is for automatic transmission and the 35368 is for manual transmission. br>br>The bottom line is that this unit did not work properly for whatever reason.
This unit appears to be for the 6 cylinder engine, despite the fact that the description stated it was for the 302 EFI. I can't return this item because Amazon won't let me. Large gaps in the plastic side cover indicate that the unit is not fully sealed. Given that it's electronic, it's a little frightening.
