My 1994 Ford Explorer, on the other hand, had a problem with transmission fluid. Did so. e investigation revealed that this modulator was the source of the issue. You'll have to remove the seat and center console to get to this, so it'll be a pain. Then it's a tight squeeze to get your hand down to the part, which I did after removing the old one and replacing it. It shifted like crap when I took it for a test drive. The shift points can be adjusted with a screw. However, this necessitates getting to the part in question and removing it once more. To cut a long story short, I took our and adjusted it at least five times. It eventually shifts back to normal and no longer uses fluid. Three stars, however, because it wasn't quite right out of the box. Because I had to install and remove it so many times, I ended up rubbing the skin off my wrist. To get it to shift properly, I had to back out the adjustment screw until it nearly fell out.
My old one was sucking tranny fluid into the crankcase of my engine, so I had to replace it. When you check your oil and find that you have more than when you started, it's an interesting situation. Anyway, I replaced it with an O'Reilly Auto part, which turned out to be a complete disaster. My 1994 Mazda B4000 shifted at 4000 rpm and drove like a cement truck. My transmission is back to its old self after I installed this part. Shifts with silky smoothness.
On extremely cold days, my transmission refused to shift into first gear. After speaking with several shops, I was told that all I needed was a new transmission, despite the fact that everything else on the vehicle was in working order. After some research, I decided to start by replacing the vacuum modulator, and my transmission now shifts smoothly. It's only been a few weeks, but so far it's worked out well. Very simple to install and a low-cost alternative to a costly trans shop.
It ruined my transmission, causing my gears to not shift, and when they did, they slammed into gear, leaving me with no choice but to drive in reverse. Since then, the truck has been parked!.
This one needs to be adjusted because the factory one was set without any adjustments. On the Ranger, getting to it and working on it, let alone adjusting it, is a real pain!.
I installed it in my 1992 Ford Explorer and noticed that the shifts were extremely harsh as soon as I took it for a test drive. When I returned home, I discovered a large amount of transmission fluid in my intake, which had leaked from the modulator's vacuum line. I picked one up at Autozone and put it on, and I'm back on the road. I wouldn't be so irritated if it wasn't in such a congested area. YOU SHOULD BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK!.
After two local parts store modules on my 1994 Ranger were found to be defective, I was finally able to resolve my shifting issues.
My 1994 Explorer, which I purchased used, is a true gem, but the way it used transmission fluid was enigmatic. There was no sign of it leaking. When I told my brother about the problem, he said it could be the modulator because he had the same issue years ago. That was the issue, to be sure. So, I'm not claiming that this brand is the best, but it seems to work for me.
