The cover is fantastic in and of itself. It's nice and thick, with a nice finish, and it's very serviceable thanks to the drain and fill plugs. The design is also very attractive, and there are no tie rod clearance issues. I wish the drain plug was a little deeper, and I might be able to find a shallower plug for that spot. My only gripe is with the hardware that came with it. The first bolt sheared when torqued to 25 ft/lbs using a torque wrench. The service manual suggests 35 ft/lbs, but that is far too much for 5/16 hardware. It's unacceptable, however, for a supposed grade 8 flange bolt to shear before reaching 25 ft/lbs. The bolts sheared at 20 ft/lbs after being tested with a bench fixture. All is well now that the bolts have been replaced with ARP bolts that have been torqued to 25ft/lbs. So, to summarize- The cover is a five-star product, but the included hardware is a big zero.
The cover is fantastic, but the hardware is a complete disaster. If you try to get the supplied bolts close to the factory specs of 30 ft lbs, they will snap. Old bolts can be cleaned and reused, or you can go out and buy some grade 8 bolts. . . . . . DON'T USE THE BOLTS THAT COME WITH THE PRODUCT!.
These covers are thick and stylish, and they complement our Jeep perfectly. The original rear cover flange was bent at the bottom where we slid over a rock, so we had to replace it. It didn't leak at all, which surprised me. The drain plugs on the covers will not be used because my 2017 JKU's differentials already have them. I read reviews where people claimed they weren't black, despite the Amazon image appearing to be black. The hammered gray appearance of them makes me lie. The bolts were not a problem for me. As if it were a standard cover, I cranked up the volume on them. The new bolts are a fraction of an inch longer than the old ones. The gaskets that come with the kit are rigid, and there have been no leaks thus far. br>br>Only negative aspect: When changing the oil, the metal inside the cover rises to the point where you won't be able to drain all of the oil without removing it.
br>br>POWERCOAT WILL CHIP DURING FASTENER HEAD CONTACT. br>br>DO NOT USE THE HARDWARE Get grade 5 right away to save yourself time and effort.
This, along with the D44 cover, were installed on my 2014 JKU, and they look fantastic! I had no problems with tie rod or track bar clearance. The covers are of excellent quality, and bolts and a reusable gasket are included. Before installing, take your time to clean the diff surface carefully and thoroughly; I have not experienced any leaks. I like that these have two fill points and a drain, and that they're made by the same people who make the OEM axle assemblies.
This finish is one-of-a-kind, and the craftsmanship is impeccable. The interior shape is exactly as it should be to ensure that lube gets to the right places, unlike many aftermarket diff covers that cause cavitation and misdirect cooling grease, reducing the life of Dana Diffs. This is made by DANA, the same company that created the Axle that it fits into. This is fantastic.
The cover appears to be sturdy, but the bolts that come with it are useless. While attempting to torque them, one of them snapped in the housing. Bolts that were defective or broken were returned with them.
This is a serious cover with a lot of different elements. Cast steel is very heavy. It looks fantastic on the car. Fits perfectly on a Jeep Grand Cherokee 4 from 2004. With Quadra Drive, the 7L capacity is limited.
