For this item to be installed, the door panel needs to be removed. Getting it open is quite easy, just make sure you remove the clips including the ones under the rubber mat where you grab the door to pull it shut.
As long as the object isn't damaged during removal, it's possible to remove it.

I replaced the switch in my mom's car after she couldn't open the My brain being a mechanic automatically believes the worst, so I bought this switch with a minimal expectation of it totally fixing the issue, and it did.

For a 2011 Malibu, this was the perfect replacement for the trunk lid release switch. It is easy to switch out (and I'm not mechanically inclined). It works just fine. There was no need to remove the door panel for this replacement. To do so, I had to break the plastic bezel that the switch is encased in, and replace it. The correct part was nowhere to be found in my order, so I bought this in place of the Camaro part. It fitted perfectly though.
I was able to press the button without any problems. Installing it was a bit of a hassle. If you want a car door trunk button, you will need to be careful to not damage the bezel that surrounds the button. Since the new button doesn't come with one, it will be up to you to search for it if it gets switched.
