It didn't solve my problem, but the switch works fine. It didn't solve my problem, and it was a pain to set up. The most serious problem was the glue used to keep the factory plug in place. It has a concrete-like feel to it. Most people try to remove the wire from the plug by pulling it out, but I was careful because I knew this. The salvage plug had enough glue on it that getting into the new switch was nearly impossible. In my case, my instrument cluster had a few bad solder joints. I'd look into it as well if your car starts fine but your gear indicator lights are burned out. If you don't line this up correctly, your car won't start because the switch won't see the gears in the correct position and won't start even if you're in park or neutral. Simply back off the mounting bolts, move it slightly, and tighten it again.
It went in without a hitch when the shifter was in neutral. After watching a few installation videos, I'll make some observations about how to do things in the real world versus how to do things online. Heating the electrical connectors (for removal) with a hair dryer helped, but the real trick (my own, no power tool required) is to sand the bolt shaft (a lot) with a band of sand paper. DW40 should be sprayed. As a result, the old part can be gently pry off the shaft. This new part will move forward without snags, thanks to the linkage that has been installed. There is no need to make any adjustments. All tail light functions work in relation to shifter positions. Following a road test, After rechecking, I can confirm that it shifts fine; it was installed due to intermittent starting when turning the key. The key now always starts the starter that has already been replaced.
The backup lights didn't work. Checked everything, but it was this switch that proved to be the culprit. After the transmission was replaced, the lights stopped working. When I compared the old and new switches, I noticed that one of the old switch's pins was missing. This was the issue. Just a little piece of advice. follow the instructions that are provided. Prepare to have a difficult time removing the electrical connectors from the old switch, as GM used some sort of adhesive to keep them in place. It's not impossible, but proceed with caution when attempting to remove them. The switch was simple to put in place.
Okay, folks, the shifter bracket on the transmission should have a nipple for the shifter cable to point at the transmission; otherwise, the shifter will not function properly, and the cable will lay flat on the floor. In addition, the bracket that holds the cable at the transmission can be adjusted to some extent. So don't be afraid to bend it a little and loosen the two screws to adjust the angle; it should move freely. Before you start bending things, make sure the neutral switch pointer is in the neutral position. It'll work out fine.
I haven't had reverse or backup lights in a long time, and I found some useful information on how to troubleshoot the problem on YouTube. Others had the same issue and were able to solve it by replacing this component on their transmission. Local auto parts are 2 or 3 times the price of this part or other aftermarket parts, so this was a significant savings. I've had good luck in the past purchasing standard motor parts. thanks.
This part was a perfect match for the original. It was easy to use and had no issues. The electrical connectors from the old switch assembly had to be released with the help of a heat gun.
Only time will tell how good it is, but I recommend leaving the positioning bracket on until after the shaft is installed. This is simply my viewpoint. While installing, make sure the car is in neutral.
There are no complaints because it does what it's supposed to do.
