When the reverse lights stopped working, the wires were torn up, so I ordered this. It was a little difficult to get to and disconnect and unscrew. I had a plate covering that area, and plugging it back in was difficult once I got it loose. It would have taken me about 15 minutes to get there if it had been open.
It turns out that the cables were cut during the repair process. Simple replacement, but make it quick or you'll have to refill your transmission fluid.
Fits 1997 Jeep Wrangler TJ 4.
My 91 Jeep YJ 4 is a direct plug-and-play vehicle. 0 AX5.
The replacement of this switch is a common Jeep YJ or TJ repair. It's not a difficult job, but the connector is difficult to reach. The price is reasonable, and the product appears to be of good quality.
A forum informed me that I most likely had a faulty backup switch. This item was $35 in used-good condition when I bought it. Condition is almost new. It looked brand new and came in the manufacturer's packaging, so it had to be a return. My reverse lights now work again after I installed the switch! By not taking the Jeep to a mechanic, I'm sure I saved a lot of money.
