You should make sure that there is clearance between the mounting tabs and windings on the back side! While the Stator is a quality unit, you may need to file the windings down to avoid contacting the mounting pads if you do not file them under. When tightening down the screws, check that clearance is clear before tightening. I was told that although it is a known problem, they did not feel it necessary to mention it in their instructions to check for it because it is not a common problem. The call from Cycle Electric was returned and they acknowledged the problem as soon as possible. In retrospect, it would have been nice to know ahead of time of what was going to happen, and before reassembling and testing for proper operation to find two windings shorted to ground. You will need to refer to the factory service manual for procedures for removing the old stator and rotor. I spent a set of stator screws and fluid on that (HD says to replace the screws every time). The magnets on mine had all come loose when I performed the upgrade, so I strongly recommend replacing the rotor. Additionally, this stator is thicker than the original single phase model it is replacing. You will need to secure it with 3029 HD Stator screws (available at your dealer) and you will want to make sure there is clearance with the Rotor bolts before torqueing. It is intended that the PN 3029 screws are a little longer than the original screws for 91-94 The low profile heads on 1994 and later are more clearance-friendly, but they don't have a low profile head on the earlier models. It is stock for sportsters with engines up to 2007. Besides the Regulator and a housing for the terminals, if you do not purchase them with the kit, you will need these accessories as well. Managing Editor - This stator is recommended for use with a regulator 609. In my case, it charged right away when I completed it. You'll have better low RPM amps and it will be easier to turn on.
In my opinion, the instructions are not very well written. Cycle Electric has been my go-to stator and regulator for my 2006 Sportster since 2009. I really like them. Although the instructions seem to be poor, installation is fairly straightforward. Just be sure you have the output wires in the correct position when mounting it, otherwise you may not be able to charge your phone.
A return attempt has been made. This item does not fit the Harley XL883R 07 model. I attempted to return it since it did not work and was never installed, and they would not accept it. They are crooks, so please do not buy from them.
I really like this stat! The transfer case will do it all as long as you don't drop a metal spring onto it and spoil.
