Moog 8455B King Pin Set

On my 1964 Ford F100, I recently had to replace the kingpins. Amazon. I was able to find the best price for this kit on the internet at com. When I first opened this kit, all of the parts appeared to be made of high-quality materials and well-machined, and when I installed them, they were a direct fit with no modifications, and my truck's performance improved noticeably. br>br>Kingpin removal and installation can be difficult and time-consuming; I understand that many people will hire a shop to do it, but I believe that most recreational mechanics can do it if they take their time and pay attention to detail. I prefer to do as much of my own auto maintenance as possible, so I opt for this option. I borrowed a ball joint removal/installation kit from O'Reilly Auto and it was exactly what I needed. My old kingpins were severely seized, but using the kit, I was able to free them. You could remove your axle and have it pressed out by a shop to save time, but I decided to do it myself to save money. The O'Reilly kit was also ideal for removing the old bushings from the spindles and replacing them with new ones. Because the Moog kit includes higher-quality bronze bushings (as opposed to nylon bushings found in less expensive kits), they must be reammed before reassembling. This is something that a shop can do for you as well, but I found a good deal on a reamer and did it myself. br>br>Overall, I was very pleased with this kit; all of the components appeared to be of excellent quality and well constructed. The Moog brand has a well-deserved reputation for high quality. I also bought the Moog tie rod ends, which were just as well-made and of excellent quality. Again, the kingpin removal/installation process can be time-consuming for the home mechanic, but it is doable, and I would strongly advise using the Moog kit. While I hope I never have to replace a kingpin again, if the need arises, I will definitely use Moog parts.
